When Missing Black People Get National Attention: It's Not What You Know...But Who You Know!

Oh, It's Like That?!
(flyer courtesy of Someone Is Missing)

When it was brought to my attention (in passing) that Karyn McConnell Hancock was a pregnant attorney, I just figured she was another white victim who was offed by her husband.
(Can I keep it real on my blog, please?)

However, when I found out she was a black woman (via the radio)-I had a fleeting suspicion. Why did I hear about this black woman who was missing via mainsteam media, but I didn't hear about any of the black college women who were MIA?

I hadn't post the story regarding Karyn the attorney, because it didn't move me to, I found myself disinterested. I figured hmmm...'hormones,' more or less.

But the question still gnawed at me...why?? why are we hearing about this black woman?

Well, after learning she recanted her story and is now being charged with making false alarms-I took the time out to familiarize myself with this story.

Looking at the key players:

  • Karyn McConnell Hancock-who has excelled (read, had a lot on her plate), including her own law firm, her whole life according to her bio at Final Harvest Church Karen's bio as 1st lady

  • Karyn's husband Bishop Lawrence Lavale Hancock-prominently known . Bishop Lawrence Hancock's bio

  • Judge C. Allen McConnell-currently, the only black judge serving in that capacity according to Toledo's Municipal Court's website: Toledo Municipal Court's Staff
Focusing solely on the fact that Karyn's disappearance was given nationwide coverage (not the lie she generated surrounding her disappearance), I'm lead to believe that Karen's disappearance was covered because of the family's prominence.

Attorney, Bishop & Judge.

So are we to presume and assume that unless a black woman is professional & connected...expect minimal media coverage in the case of one's disappearance??
That seems to be the case.

The Nailah Franklins and Latasha Normans of this world, and other african-americans who are/were missing and are mentioned in Deidra's blog
Black & Missing
-deserves the same courtesy.
Don't they?

Is it possible to cover EVERY black person-minority who disappears?
Of course not, but it must get better than this.

My heart breaks for these black women
-who truly were/are missing, and the only ones aware of their disappearance
are their families and surrounding cities/town.

Mocking a kidnapping
is not funny.
Innocent people could've gotten in trouble, pulled over, harassed, brought in for questioning--even with Karen's vague description.
It's happened, before.

I'm glad to know Karyn is truly safe, but just based on her bio at her church's website-Karyn needs to go on a sabbatical, for at least 3 years. I was exhausted just reading the bio. She has too much on her plate, and we all know you can't be everything to everyone.

To Karyn: stop being scared to say 'NO,' and seek psychiatric definitely need it-and we're all praying that God heals you where you hurt.

You Better Recognize-To thine ownself be true-and that'll negate the need to fabricate a cock-and-bull story.

Less Than One Month After Announcing her Illness, U.S. Rep Julia Carson loses battle with cancer...

U.S. Rep. Julia Carson died Saturday following a battle with lung cancer.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — U.S. Rep. Julia Carson died Saturday following a battle with lung cancer.

Carson, D-Indiana, died at home, said family spokesman Vanessa Summers. She was 69.

Carson had been away from Washington since she was admitted to an Indianapolis hospital September 21 for about a week. Her office had said at that time that she had deep infection in her leg, near a spot where a vein was removed in January 1997 when she underwent double heart bypass surgery just weeks after she was first elected to Congress.

Carson announced Nov. 26 that she was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer and that she would not run next year for a seventh term representing the city of Indianapolis.

She had said in a statement that she expected to return to Washington after recuperation, but a doctor then diagnosed her with lung cancer.

"It had gone into remission years before, but it was back with a terminal vengeance," Carson said in the statement.

Funeral arrangements were pending.

Carson also had suffered in recent years from high blood pressure, asthma and diabetes. She missed dozens of House votes in 2004 because of illness and spent the weekend before the 2004 election in the hospital for what she said was a flu shot reaction — but still won re-election by 10 percentage points.

Carson, who grew up in poverty and attended an all-black Indianapolis high school, became the first black and first woman to represent Indianapolis in Congress when she won her first term in

Carson was born to a single mother who worked as a housekeeper. She graduated in 1955 from Crispus Attucks High School, attending the segregated school at the same time as basketball star Oscar Robertson.

She began her political career in the 1960s, when then-U.S. Rep. Andy Jacobs Jr. hired the United Auto Workers secretary to work in his office. It was Jacobs who encouraged Carson to run for the Indiana Legislature in 1972 — the first of her more than two dozen victories in local, legislative and congressional elections.

She ran for Congress in 1996 when Jacobs decided to retire after three decades in the House.

R.I.P. Julia

Thoughts and prayers are with the Carson loved ones.

300-lb Man OK After 40-Foot Shaft Fall

WASHINGTON — A construction worker who fell about 40 feet down an elevator shaft is nearly unhurt, with no serious injuries. District of Columbia Fire and EMS spokesman Alan Etter said the man, who's about 25 years old, was working on a house under construction in Southeast Washington Friday morning.

The worker, who Etter says weighs more than 300 pounds, was standing on a plywood platform in the elevator shaft at the top level of the house.

The board couldn't support his weight and the man fell 40 feet down the shaft before he crashed into the basement. He broke two more platforms on his way down.

The worker wasn't wearing safety equipment, Etter said.

"It is unbelievable that the guy first of all survived, and secondly survived with what appear to be minor injuries," Etter said.

He said it took a concerted effort on behalf of the fire department to secure the man and get him out of the basement. Etter said he suspects the man was OK because the platforms may have broken his fall.

The man has not been identified, and Etter said the hospital was probably not going to admit him.
I'm just glad to know that brother is alright!!

**UPDATE** Babygirl Lakshmi's Left the building!!

Girl Born With 8 Limbs Leaves Hospital
(story edited by ivent)

BANGALORE, India — A 2-year-old girl who was born with four arms
and four legs left a hospital in southern India on Saturday, little more than a month after surgeons successfully removed her extra
limbs. (story continued below)

The surgeon who led more than 30 doctors in the marathon surgery said Lakshmi was making good progress and should be mobile soon.

"Lakshmi is fine and stable," chief surgeon Dr. Sharan Patil told The Associated Press. "She should face no problem in walking."

Lakshmi was born joined at the pelvis to a "parasitic twin" that stopped developing in her mother's womb. The surviving fetus absorbed the limbs, kidneys and other body parts of the undeveloped twin.

A team of more than 30 surgeons performed a 24-hour operation on Nov. 7 at the Sparsh hospital in Bangalore, the capital of southern Karnataka state. They removed the extra limbs, transplanted a kidney from the twin and reconstructed Lakshmi's pelvic area.

"Lakshmi is a hero," Patil said Saturday.

"Lakshmi, who never turned (over) earlier, started turning after the surgery. She was even able to stand for 10 minutes on the bed holding the window grill, which is remarkable," the Press Trust of India news agency quoted Patil as saying.

Lakshmi's parents said they were taking her back to their rural village in eastern Bihar state where she had been revered by some as an incarnation of the four-armed Hindu goddess she was named after.
You go, Lakshmi!!!
I hope to hear good things about her, in the future!!

Juanie B Showin' Out in Detroit...

Profitess Juanita Bynum

Charles Ellis III
Greater Grace Detroit

Tonight (less than an hour ago), I called a friend of mine's to touch bases with her, since I hadn't spoken to her in a couple of months.

After shooting the breeze, "Ann" brought up she saw Juanie B in Detroit at Pulpit Pimp "Bishop" Charles Ellis' church, Greater Grace Temple.
I was silent.

She then went on to say Juanie B showed her tail feathers (not her exact words)....Juanie B tripped out.
My mind said, "go on."
Ann then relayed, during Juanie's pilfering of the sheeple, I mean in the midst of Juanie's ministering, she asked for her 'black book.'
Her slave, err flunky, uhhh I mean armor bearer (i guess was her capacity) sheepishly admitted that it was at the hotel.

Diva, I mean Profitess berated this woman before the assembly at Greater Grace, addressing this woman as HER (Juanie B's) servant. Paraphrasing Juanie told the woman, this is what i'm talking about, you're here to serve are to SERVE, I ask for something you're supposed to have it, you're the servant... and proceeded to give her a tongue lashing that made Satan proud.

"Ann" confessed that she couldn't believe Juanie spoke to that woman like that especially in front of people.

But she said the worse part of the debacle was...
The sheeple (audience) AGREED WITH JUANIE B!!
After openly expressing her indignation (after all, I did say she was my friend right...we don't roll with the majority), "Ann" said the sheeple sitting next to her said to her,
(insert neckroll here)
"I KNOW you're not going against her?!"
"Her" being Juanie B.
I said and and just who is Juanie B????
"Ann" when onto say that those who gave offerings of $50+ were extended the privilege of getting out of their seats to bring their offering. "Ann" said and I quote: 'you would've thought it was the Price is Right!! Come on Down-the way those people got out of their seats!"
For those who gave $20 and were given the collection plate to pass around with your booty rooted to your seat.
I then told her about Juanie being a pulpit pimp, this blog etc etc.
*of course I sent her the link to YBR*
"Ann" said she was observing a cult-Jim Jones, and got up and left.

Also while Juanie B's in Detroit (she's visiting til Feb'08 on Wednesdays) she wanted to get her hair done. "Ann's" associate was asked to do Juanie B's hair-but Juanie had one request: bring a hair dryer.
Ok. it happens...I guess.
Well, the Detroit weaveologist showed up at Juanie's location, with dryer in hand and proceeded to move towards the interior of the room. I said "proceeded" because Ms. Pittbull-in-a-skirt aka the Servant was now doing bodyguard duty.
She asked Sis. Beweavable: who, what, where, why for etc and at about question #98...Sis. Beweavable said and i'm paraphrasing ...
'Look! she called me. I didn't call her. she's the one who didn't even have a hair dryer'...
I'm left assuming Sis. Beweavable made it out alive. I haven't heard anything contrary.
I'll keep you posted.

Not wanting to overlook pulpit pimp Charles Ellis III, "Ann" relayed a recent event that happened at Greater Grace.
A former congregant's mother had passed away and the daughter wanted to have the repast at Greater Grace since her mother was a member.
Let me preface this by saying her mother was a worshipper at Greater Grace when Ellis' father was pastor.
She was a member for approximately 50-60 years.
Ellis told the daughter she could have the repast at Greater Grace.
For $20 per head.
Mind you, mother was a member for 50+ years. Can you imagine how many tithes and offerings of mother's that is invested in that multi-million dollar edifice that's sitting on 7 mile Rd in Detroit??
Daughter, not one to be taking as a fool said:

And left.
But not before telling others congregants in the church, and they in turned left also.
"Ann" has echoed my sentiment which is to trust God, bcuz these pastors (those who are distorting God's truth) are greedy and aren't in accordance with the will of God.
They are out of order.
You Better Recognize sheeple...these NON-Anointed people cannot get you in heaven. They won't make you rich. And care only about your VALID credit/debit card, checkbook, and cash.
GOD ALMIGHTY will ask you on judgment day, WHY?? Why did you worship THEM, and not me?? What answer can you give that will satisfy God Almighty??

To "Ann"
God's Word is not a fad.
It will guide you into all truths
and I thank God that you were courageous and stood
for righteousness, and refused to be corrupted by immorality,
witchcraft, and divination.
God bless you.

New Castmates Added to "Shysters & Perverts In Jesus' Name" How far is too far?!

Jesus...Here's a Wheel, Please take it!

New Co-stars:

"Pastor" Alton 'I've overstepped all kinds of boundaries' Williams, Memphis, TN

This Episode of "Shysters & Perverts in Jesus' Name" takes place in the boudoir via the pulpit!

Pastor A.R. Williams Shows The Women Of His Church "How to Keep Their Husbands So The Hoe Don't Get Him"
Thaddeus Matthews Blog

Members of World Overcomers were shocked on last Sunday morning when they entered the place where they assemble to worship God. In the pulpit was a Queen sized bed draped in burgundy and gold.

Members were wondering why the place that normally Pastor Alton R. Williams preaches the word of God from had turned into a large bedroom, when he entered wearing a robe and pajama pants with his bible in hand. the lights are dimmed, mode music is playing,Williams at this point lays on the bed reading from the Songs of Solomon.

While still reading the bible his wife Sherrilyn enters the sanctuary wearing a long red feathered seductive fitting gown. Mrs. Williams very seductively walks across the pulpit turn bedroom and sits on the bed next to her husband. She closes his bible and begins to rub on him, and then lefts him from the bed and very passionately embraces and kisses him. Pastor Williams whose Sunday morning freak session is designed to save marriages tells the women in the congregation "This is how to keep your husband so the Hoe don't get him".

In my opinion A.R. Williams has gone to far, the pastor who spent $260,000 to build a statue that reminds you of the Statue Of Liberty has lost his God focus and now become an entertainer willing to do anything to keep fleecing his flock of their money so that he can continue to live his luxury lifestyle.

In a time that people in the community need the Word of God for deliverance from their plights by allowing the word to get them up and motivated to make changes in their lives, this fool wants to hold Sunday morning sex classes. What about salvation and the saving of souls? I guess with New Directions Church being less than a mile away Williams is losing members which means that he is losing dollars.

So what will Williams do next Sunday, Show the men how to please their wives by performing oral sex on sister Sherrilyn, or maybe he'll give a course on the various positions of lovemaking. What ever it is you can be sure that his cult of followers at WORLD OVERCUMMERS will not get a show without paying.

My Cousin in L.A. went to R. Kelly's Double Up Concert this evening and all she got were lousy crickets chirping in the parking lot!

You're Unprofessional. Unprofessional You.

My cousin Tisa is hotter than a Pinto with a cracked radiator! She took a day off of work, showered, shampooed and shined, paid $3.30+/gal gas, and navigated the treacherous California freeways

to get to the Honda Center in Anaheim, CA to see Keisha Cole @PissPot's (R.Kelly) concert TONIGHT. Did I mention the tix were $100?!

Imagine her surprise when she pulled up and the only music she heard, came from the crickets rubbing their hind legs together in the parking lot of the Honda Center. No Pisspot. No Keisha. No J. Holiday (don't know who he is), no background singers, waterboy, towel boy, entourae...NO ONE.
Not one to be daunted to she walked up to the door only to be given a flier by a security guard which read:

"The Honda Center 12.13.07-R.Kelly concert has been cancelled. Refunds available at point of purchase." No radio announcement, smoke signal, text message, email...I guess it was easier to hit up Kinko's and run off flyers.

Piss Pot, Keisha, J.Holiday and crew were a no show due to low ticket sales.

To quote Tisa: "I don't care if your fan base is 10 or 10,000-get your a** out there and perform your butt off, people took off of work to go see these people-R.Kelly needs to stop being a hater, he's jealous of Ne-Yo, I wanted to see Ne-yo and Keisha, not him. Kelly's jealous. He's almost washed up...he's a hater. He needs 20,000 people to show up and perform, and only 2,000 people bought tix...we weren't enough to show up for a concert??? I could've stayed home and watched "Grey's Anatomy!"
Remember what Ne-Yo said? Ne-Yo Speaks

I forewarned my cuz and told her PissPot is known for his drama queen antics in Detroit. From showing up 2 hours late, to performing for 15 minutes, to canceling in mid-tour his concert with Joe Camel, err Jay Z.
Tisa had great seats, the 10th row. I told her that was too close anyway...piss could've still landed on her! I'm sorry peeps, but thats my fam.
It's too bad, I think Keisha could've packed a house without PissPot.
Because of Kelly, Keisha's fans had to miss out too.

When IS HE going to court??

Man who drove off parking deck charged with DUI

Emergency workers rescued a man who was trapped in his car after it went over the railing in a parking deck and dangled seven floors above the ground.

Steel cables on the side of the parking caught the car late Wednesday. But all four wheels appeared free of the parking deck in Atlanta's Buckhead neighborhood.

Brant Sanderlin/AJC
Onlookers on the ground applauded the rescue at the parking deck, which is attached to the Realm condominiums in the 3300 block of Peachtree Road in Buckhead.

To reach the car without dislodging it, emergency workers went to the parking deck's top floor — one floor above the car — and rappelled down the side of the building. Then, a firefighter broke out the car's passenger side window, secured a harness around the driver and pulled him to safety, Atlanta Fire Capt. Bill May said.

Police Lt. Bob England said the car's air bag deployed, but the man hit his head on the windshield, knocking him unconscious and keeping him still while rescuers on the scene studied the precarious situation.

"It looks like he sped up the ramp and went right through the wires," England said. "The wires did what the wires are supposed to do."

The man, whose name was not immediately released, was brought to a hospital.

Paulk's granddaughter alleges inappropriate touch
Penielle White made public the testimony she gave months ago in a court deposition

A granddaughter of a preacher embroiled in lawsuits over sexual and financial wrongdoings went public this week with shocking testimony she gave months ago in a court deposition.
Dwight Ross Jr./AJC
Bishop Earl Paulk, shown here (above) in the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit in 1992, has faced a number of allegations of sexual misconduct.

It was the latest in years of allegations of sexual misconduct by Bishop Earl Paulk, who led one of Atlanta's biggest churches for decades.

Depositions, testimony given by witnesses preceding a trial, are typically not public record in DeKalb State Court, but Penielle White talked about hers to a Fox 5 WAGA-TV reporter this week.

White said her grandfather, Bishop Paulk, touched her and a friend Jessica Battle, in "inappropriate areas" years ago when the two girls were spending the night together at Paulk's house. White was about 8 at the time.

Paulk denied the allegations in a statement through his attorneys Friday.

He also denied them when Battle sued him in 1991 for molestation, which she claimed included fondling, oral sex and sex.

Paulk settled the suit out of court in 2003, to cut legal costs, he said.

White's deposition is part of other, long-running lawsuits by Mona and Bobby Brewer, former staff members at Paulk's church, which used to be called Chapel Hill Harvester in DeKalb County. It was a nationally known church with more than 10,000 members and a TV ministry.

Mona Brewer claims Paulk used his position to coerce her into a sexual relationship. Bobby Brewer, her husband, claims he lent the church money and was never repaid.

Paulk reacted through his attorneys to his granddaughter's statements. "Bishop Paulk denies the allegations made by Penielle. He is saddened and confused by the interviews of his daughter [Beth Bonner] and granddaughter," it says.

The statement went on to say that Paulk had seen the Bonner family over Thanksgiving and hopes for reconciliation.

Beth Bonner also gave a television interview, apologizing to the families who had been hurt by the events and saying she believes the claims of several women that Paulk had sex with them.

White and Bonner did not return phone calls.

The Rev. D.E. Paulk now heads the church, which is called the Cathedral at Chapel Hill. Attendance has fallen to fewer than 2,000.

He returned to take the reins of the church more than a year ago.

He grew up believing he was Bishop Paulk's nephew, but learned this summer through a court-ordered DNA test that he is actually his son.

D.E. Paulk's mother is married to Bishop Paulk's brother.

D.E. said he can say little because of the Brewers' suits and because the bishop is being criminally investigated in Cobb County, suspected of lying in a deposition.

In his deposition, Paulk said he has had sex only with his wife and Brewer.

D.E. Paulk said, "I am inheriting someone else's issues. That does not mean that I condone [anything bad that has happened]," he said.

"But we are saddened that this has gotten so ugly and so many people have been hurt by all of this."
I ANYTHING sacred to this joker?
forgive me Lord. smh

Bishop Weeks yanks tell-all book on Bynum, apologizes in online video
"She Wanted To Be the Next Oprah at Any Cost," he notes

A jazz piano plays soft music. A field of holiday chrysanthemums fills the screen. A husband lounges on a red couch to send a video love letter to his estranged wife.

This is not just any public apology — it's from Bishop Thomas W. Weeks III to his wife, national evangelist Juanita Bynum.
Thomas Weeks' special message to his wife, Juanita Bynum
Thomas Weeks in the video

eks has posted a video to his wife on to say he's sorry for writing a tell-all book that uses examples from his broken marriage to teach others about relationships.

The book, "What Love Taught Me," was coincidentally released by Global Destiny Publishing after Bynum dished about her stormy marriage to Weeks in a two-part interview in Essence magazine.

On Monday, Weeks, appeared on the Tom Joyner Morning Show to announce the debut of his book, which was selling for $13.95. It included pages detailing what Weeks said were the couple's "weaknesses" in chapters with titles like "Opposites Attract, But Do They Last," and "She Wanted To Be the Next Oprah at Any Cost,"

About 48 hours later, "What Love Taught Me" was yanked from distribution with this message on his website to his wife and his Global Destiny church family: "I want to speak to my wife," Weeks pleads. "I haven't been able to talk to her since Aug. 21, but I want to share something very personal and heartfelt. ... I have wounded her emotionally in the last 48 hours. I want to say publicly, globally and privately from my heart, I'm sorry. I am pulling every book that would have been shipped."

Weeks, an author and leader of a global ministry, promises a "full refund" to those who have ordered the book and says he will re-release it at another date under a new title, "What Love Taught Me — Only."

Juanita Bynum's publicist Amy Malone said Friday that Bynum had not seen the book and didn't press Weeks to pull it.

"She had nothing to do with it," Malone said. "They have not spoken."

Malone said Bynum's brother, Tom Bynum, is scheduled to appear on the Tom Joyner Morning Show Friday to discuss the matter.

Bynum, a Pentecostal pastor, author and gold-selling gospel singer, and Weeks have been separated since spring.

On Aug. 21, Bynum accused Weeks of beating, choking and stomping her to the ground in a hotel parking lot. He has been charged with aggravated assault, making terroristic threats and simple battery.

The couple's divorce is pending in Gwinnett County Superior Court. A mutual restraining order prevents harassing contact between them.

However, in his video apology to his wife, Weeks thanks Bynum for sending him a "prayer shawl" and says he will be sending her a gift too — a book his father gave him that helped his spiritual life.

"My love for you still stands. I still appreciate everything you have done for me and have done for this ministry," Weeks says in the video message. "No matter where we go in life I will always pray for you."

Weeks has launched a four-day fast at Global Destiny in Duluth so that the congregation can pray for strength and healing for themselves and their leaders. A "Shut In" will be held Friday at 11 p.m. The sermon will be broadcast live on the Internet. In the video apology, Weeks invites Bynum to come back to the pulpit of the church they started to preach at 5 a.m. Sunday, even if it means he has to leave the building because "of the legal situation right now."

Weeks' divorce lawyer Randy Kessler said he was not involved in the decision to publish the book, yank it or apologize to Bynum.

"I have stayed out of that," he said. And as far as he knows the couple is still headed for divorce even though Weeks in his video longs for the day when he and Bynum can "sit down and rejoice over dinner as family again."

Kessler said "there is still a case pending, but if two people want to reconcile the last thing we are going to do is push divorce.

Lord, please help these folks to resolve this mess--PLEASE!

Man dangling in car 7 stories high, rescued

Emergency workers rescued a man trapped inside a car teetering seven floors above the ground after it fell off the edge of a parking deck in Buckhead Wednesday night.

Steel cables on the side of the deck caught the car, but just barely. All four wheels appeared to be free of the deck as firemen and emergency workers struggled to reach the man.

The driver was conscious as he was pulled from the car and taken away on a stretcher. Onlookers on the ground applauded the rescue at the parking deck, which is attached to the Realm condominiums in the 3300 block of Peachtree Road in Buckhead.

To reach the car without dislodging it, emergency workers went to the deck's top floor, one story above the car, and rappeled down the side of the building.

They reached into open windows to slip a safety harness on driver, who was the sole occupant of the car, said an Atlanta Fire Department spokesman.

The driver's condition wasn't immediately known.

Because of the way the car was hung in the cables, rescuers were unable to open the car's doors and instead reached through open windows to get to the man.

"The firefighters did a great job I'll have to give them that. That's a very unusual rescue."

said Lt. Bob England of the Atlanta Police Department.

England said the car's airbag deployed, but the man hit his head on the windshield, knocking him unconscious and keeping him still while the first rescuers on the scene studied the precarious situation.

"It looks like he sped up the ramp and went right through the wires," England said. "The wires did what the wires are supposed to do."

Amerikkka The Beautiful! Pt II $70 BILLION in New War Funding?!

And Samuel Snow who was falsely accused & imprisoned during the WWII is only good for $725?!

(edited by Ivent)

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Democratic lawmakers and staffers privately say they're closing in on a broad budget deal that would give President Bush as much as $70 billion in new war funding.

Congress is likely to pass an additional $70 billion in new war funds, Democrats tell CNN.

The deal would lack a key provision Democrats had attached to previous funding bills calling for most U.S. troops to come home from Iraq by the end of 2008, which would be a significant legislative victory for Bush.

Democrats admit such a move would be highly controversial within their own party. Coming just weeks after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-California, vowed the White House would not get another dollar in war money this year, it would further antagonize the liberal base of the party, which has become frustrated with the congressional leadership's failure to push back on Bush's Iraq policy.

"The base will not be happy," said one senior Democratic aide, who requested anonymity to candidly discuss budget negotiations that have not been completed.

The Democratic aide acknowledged the president is likely to get new money for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan before Congress adjourns for the year. "Yes, in the end, that's where we will be," the aide said.

A senior Republican aide also said both sides are nearing a deal that would give Bush a large chunk of the $200 billion in war funding he requested earlier this year. "We're not there yet, but we're close," the Republican aide said.

Privately, Democrats say they have little choice but to give the president at least some war funding because Senate Republicans have vowed to block any final budget deal unless it has at least some of the war funding Bush has requested.

The White House has also been aggressive about pointing out that Defense Secretary Robert Gates will have to start laying off some civilian employees and freezing some defense contracts unless the Pentagon gets new war money soon, putting vast political pressure on Democrats to give the troops more money before going home for Christmas.

"We're calling on Congress to fully fund the troops," White House press secretary Dana Perino said Wednesday. "The troops need the money. Secretary Gates has been very clear -- since November 14, he has said that there might have to be furlough notices that go out if we don't get the money."

Still, Democrats are trying to sell $70 billion in new war funding as a partial victory for them. They point out that while the final numbers are still in flux during intense private negotiations, Bush is likely to get far less money than he originally requested.

"What is for sure is he will not get all $200 billion," said one senior Democratic lawmaker. "Whatever number it is, it is much less than what the president asked for. For the first time in this war, he has received less than his request."

But senior administration officials privately say they expect to be able to get at least of the rest of the president's $200 billion request passed through Congress next year.

"They have not been able to change the president's policy," one senior official said flatly, expressing confidence the White House will continue to get more war funds as violence decreases in Iraq.

LEESBURG, Florida (CNN) -- Samuel Snow thought when he got a check from the Pentagon that the Army was finally ready to give him the apology and the compensation he'd been denied for 63 years. He was wrong.

Samuel Snow, 83, wants medical benefits and retirement pay from the Army since his conviction was overturned.

The Army imprisoned Snow in 1944 for a crime he says he couldn't have committed. The military overturned his conviction this year and sent him his back pay for the 15 months he spent in prison: $725.

Snow is one of just two defendants still alive from one of the biggest military trials of World War II.

Twenty-eight black soldiers were sent to prison after an Italian prisoner of war, Guglielmo Olivotto, was found hanged to death following a night of brawling at Fort Lawton in Seattle, Washington.

At a time when the military forces were segregated, 41 black soldiers were tried in one large group and were provided two attorneys to defend them all.

According to the Army, 28 of the soldiers were convicted of rioting, including Pvt. Samuel Snow, who spent 15 months behind bars.

Two of those soldiers also were convicted of manslaughter in the death of the POW and sentenced to 15 years in prison. Thirteen of the men were acquitted.

After being released from prison, Snow returned to the segregated South. He arrived home with a criminal record, a bad conduct discharge and no benefits such as those provided by the GI Bill of Rights. He became a janitor.

In October, the Army Board for Corrections of Military Records determined the defendants were denied a fair trial. The board said the prosecutor refused to give defense attorneys access to confidential evidence.

As a result of the findings, the Army overturned the convictions -- but stopped short of finding the defendants "not guilty."

"What it is saying is that they didn't receive their fair day in court," said Army spokesman Col. Dan Baggio.

The Army wrote checks to the surviving defendants as compensation for the back pay they were denied while in prison. Snow assumed that figure would be a substantial amount of money -- until the $725 check arrived at his home in central Florida.

If the payment had been adjusted for inflation, Snow would have received $7,768.13, according to the inflation calculator on the Labor Department's Web site.

If the $725 had been invested in 1946, when Snow was discharged from the Army, at 8 percent interest, compounded annually, it would have been worth more than $82,000 by now.

The Army said there are no legal provisions that allow it to consider adding accrued interest, adjustments for inflation or compensation for lost benefits.

Snow said the size of the check didn't surprise him. "I didn't think it was no kind of mistake," he told CNN. "They don't care."

The case might have been buried in history if not for the work of Seattle author Jack Hamann.

Hamann, a former CNN correspondent, spent years detailing the riot and flawed prosecution of the black American soldiers for his 2005 book, "On American Soil: How Justice Became a Casualty of WWII."

Fort Lawton is now a public park, and most of the buildings have been torn down. But Hamann was able to pinpoint the very spot where Snow says he was knocked unconscious as he left his barracks. The author said it proves Snow was innocent, because he never made it to the Italian POW barracks to join the fight.

"He never had a chance to be involved in the riot," Hamann said. "He was just responding quickly to what he thought was an attack, and he was knocked out of it almost immediately."

The revived story of how Snow and 27 others were convicted on little evidence caught the attention of Congress. U.S. Rep. Jim McDermott, D-Washington, asked the Army to review the nearly forgotten case.

"A real injustice had been done to a whole lot of black guys who were serving their country, and somebody had to speak up for them," McDermott said.

McDermott told CNN he does not blame the Army for going by the book but said he will look for ways Congress can help. Snow said he wants his name cleared, medical benefits and retirement pay.

But at age 83 and in poor health, he said he wonders if he will live long enough to see it happen. E-mail to a friend E-mail to a friend source

I hope I can find a workplace that I'm happy to go to as this police officer has!!

Rock-N-Roll's most famous domestic abuser is dead...Tina can now leave Buddha alone, and come get her some Jesus Christ!!!

SAN DIEGO, California (AP) -- Ike Turner, whose role as one of rock's critical architects was overshadowed by his ogrelike image as the man who brutally abused former wife Tina Turner, died Wednesday at his home in suburban San Diego. He was 76.

He won a Grammy in 2007 in the traditional blues album category for "Risin' With the Blues."

But his image is forever identified as the drug-addicted, wife-abusing husband of Tina Turner. He was hauntingly portrayed by Laurence Fishburne in the movie "What's Love Got To Do With It," based on Tina Turner's autobiography.

In a 2001 interview with The Associated Press, Turner denied his ex-wife's claims of abuse and expressed frustration that he had been demonized in the media while his historic role in rock's beginnings had been ignored.

"You can go ask Snoop Dogg or Eminem, you can ask the Rolling Stones or (Eric) Clapton, or you can ask anybody -- anybody, they all know my contribution to music, but it hasn't been in print about what I've done or what I've contributed until now," he said.

* I-Report: Share your thoughts about Ike Turner

Turner, a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, is credited by many rock historians with making the first rock 'n' roll record, "Rocket 88," in 1951. Produced by the legendary Sam Phillips, it was groundbreaking for its use of distorted electric guitar. Photo See photos of the rock pioneer »

But as would be the case for most of his career, Turner, a prolific session guitarist and piano player, was not the star on the record -- it was recorded with Turner's band but credited to singer Jackie Brenston.

And it would be another singer -- a young woman named Anna Mae Bullock -- who would bring Turner his greatest fame, and infamy.

Turner met the 18-year-old Bullock, whom he would later marry, in 1959 and quickly made the husky-voiced woman the lead singer of his group, refashioning her into the sexy Tina Turner. Her stage persona was highlighted by short skirts and stiletto heels that made her legs her most visible asset. But despite the glamorous image, she still sang with the grit and fervor of a rock singer with a twist of soul.

The pair would have two sons. They also produced a string of hits. The first, "A Fool In Love," was a top R&B song in 1959, and others followed, including "I Idolize You" and "It's Gonna Work Out Fine."

But over the years they're genre-defying sound would make them favorites on the rock 'n' roll scene, as they opened for acts like the Rolling Stones.

The densely layered hit "River Deep, Mountain High" was one of producer Phil Spector's proudest creations. A rousing version of "Proud Mary," a cover of the Creedence Clearwater Revival hit, became their signature song and won them a Grammy for best R&B vocal performance by a group.

Still, their hits were often sporadic, and while their public life depicted a powerful, dynamic duo, Tina Turner would later charge that her husband was an overbearing wife abuser and cocaine addict.

In her 1987 autobiography, "I, Tina," she narrated a harrowing tale of abuse, including suffering a broken nose. She said that cycle ended after a vicious fight between the pair in the back seat of a car in Las Vegas, where they were scheduled to perform.

It was the only time she ever fought back against her husband, Turner said.

After the two broke up, both fell into obscurity and endured money woes for years before Tina Turner made a dramatic comeback in 1982 with the release of the album "Private Dancer," a multiplatinum success with hits such as "Let's Stay Together" and "What's Love Got To Do With It."

The movie based on her life, "What's Love Got To Do With It," was also a hit, earning Angela Bassett an Oscar nomination.

But Fishburne's glowering depiction of Ike Turner also furthered Turner's reputation as a rock villain.

Meanwhile, Turner never again had the success he enjoyed with his former wife.

After years of drug abuse, he was jailed in 1989 and served 17 months.

Turner told the AP he originally began using drugs to stay awake and handle the rigors of nonstop touring during his glory years.

"My experience, man, with drugs -- I can't say that I'm proud that I did drugs, but I'm glad I'm still alive to convey how I came through," he said.

"I'm a good example that you can go to the bottom. ... I used to pray, `God, if you let me get three days clean, I will never look back.' But I never did get to three days. You know why? Because I would lie to myself. And then only when I went to jail, man, did I get those three days. And man, I haven't looked back since then."

But while he would readily admit to drug abuse, Turner always denied abusing his ex-wife.

After years out of the spotlight his career finally began to revive in 2001 when he released the album "Here and Now." The recording won rave reviews and a Grammy nomination and finally helped shift some of the public's attention away from his troubled past and onto his musical legacy.

"His last chapter in life shouldn't be drug abuse and the problems he had with Tina," said Rob Johnson, the producer of "Here and Now."

Turner spent his later years making more music and touring, even while he battled emphysema.

Accolades for both his early and later work continued to come in as he grew older, and the once-broke Turner managed to garner a comfortable income as his songs were sampled by a variety of rap acts.

In interviews toward the end of his life, Turner would acknowledge having made many mistakes, but maintained he was still able to carry himself with pride.

"I know what I am in my heart. And I know regardless of what I've done, good and bad, it took it all to make me what I am today," he once told the A

JAN ADAMS TO FINALLY PAY MALPRACTICE VICTIM: Doc to compensate woman suing over abandoned surgical sponge.

*As Tuesday's "Dr. Phil" featured guest Lori Ufondu explaining how Dr. Jan Adams left a surgical sponge inside of her during breast implant surgery, a settlement was being worked out between the parties to address the judgment awarded Ufondu that has yet to be paid.

Six years after Adams performed the surgery, Ufondu went under the knife again seven years later with a different surgeon to correct alleged mistakes made by Adams. It was then that the surgical sponge was discovered. She sued Adams for malpractice and was awarded $180,000, but he never paid.

Ufondu's attorney Bob Nehoray told that Adams has made one payment and will continue to do so until April 7, when both parties are due in court again to make sure the money is being paid.

Adams, the surgeon who operated on Kanye West's mother Dr. Donda West the day before she died, appeared in court last month to answer questions about his assets

Stacy's Pastor Speaks, Probably too late now!

cop/husband/serial killer Drew Peterson

Pastor took his time coming forward!!

Pastor: Cop told 4th wife he killed 3rd wife

BOLINGBROOK, Illinois (AP) -- A former police officer's missing wife once confided in a pastor that her husband admitted killing his third wife, the pastor said.

Former Illinois police officer Drew Peterson is considered a suspect in the disappearance of his fourth wife.

Former Westbrook Christian Church pastor Neil Schori told Fox News Channel's Greta Van Susteren in an interview broadcast Monday that Stacy Peterson told him in August that her husband, Drew Peterson, admitted killing his previous wife, Kathleen Savio.

Schori said he asked Stacy Peterson, Drew Peterson's fourth wife, to clarify what she had said and she responded, "'He killed Kathleen."' Schori said the conversation occurred when he and Stacy Peterson met at a coffee shop.

Savio's body was found in her bathtub in 2004 and her death initially was ruled an accidental drowning. After Stacy Peterson disappeared in October, prosecutors opened another investigation into the Savio case, and said it appears her death was a homicide staged to look like an accident. Drew Peterson has not been named a suspect in her death.

Stacy Peterson offered enough detail to be credible, said Schori, who declined to discuss the details in the interview.

"But it was very clear that this was not just speculation," he said. "She was not jumping to conclusions."

Joel Brodsky, Peterson's attorney, did not immediately return an after-hours phone message seeking comment from The Associated Press. But he said on the Fox program that "I'd love to get to cross-examine (Schori) because there are a lot of problems with his story."

Schori said he thought Stacy Peterson never shared the information about Savio with police. Asked why Stacy Peterson chose to stay with her husband after learning about his former wife's death, Schori said, "My guess would be out of fear."

Although he has not been arrested or charged, Drew Peterson, 53, has been named a suspect in Stacy Peterson's disappearance by Illinois State Police, who have labeled the case a possible homicide.

Stacy Peterson was last seen October 28 and was reported missing by her family the next day. Drew Peterson, a member of the Bolingbrook Police Department until he quit after his wife went missing, has denied any involvement in her disappearance. He has said he believes his wife left him for another man and is alive.

Last month, the Westbrook Christian Church's pastor of spiritual formation told The Associated Press that Stacy Peterson requested an August meeting with a member of their pastoral staff when the church made a routine call to see why she and Drew Peterson had not attended services in recent months.

The church official made a "judgment call" not to alert authorities and did not consult with other church staff, Rob Daniels said.

At the time he spoke to the AP, Daniels would not identify the clergy member who met with Stacy Peterson or say where the meeting took place.
