LOVE WINS Manuscript Submission Guidelines
1. LOVE WINS submissions are real life stories ranging in length from 500 to 1,200 words.
2. Submissions can be can be sent via our Web site or mailed to the SmileyBooks editorial department:

3. Typed manuscripts must be submitted on standard 8-1/2” x 11” paper, in 12-point font. Take the extra time to proofread your work. Remember you only have one chance to make a first impression.
4. Please be sure that your name and contact information are clearly marked on your submission.
5. We are not able to mail acknowledgement cards or return submissions, so please never send us your original or only copy.
6. If your submission is selected for publication, you will be contacted directly.
7. Final contributors' bios will be included along with their selection and each author will receive a complimentary autographed first edition copy of LOVE WINS. In addition to the entries included in the book, SmileyBooks will feature additional selections on www.tavistalks.com.
8. All submissions must be received no later than February 29, 2008.

• Reginald F. Lewis was born on this day in Baltimore, Maryland. He received his law degree from Harvard Law School in 1968. He was a partner in Murphy, Thorpes& Lewis, the first black law firm on Wall Street. In 1989 he became president and CEO of TLC Beatrice International food Company, Lewis became the head of the largest black-owned business in the United States. TLC Beatrice had revenues of $1.54 billion in 1992.

• Jack Johnson- On February 3, 1903; Jackson became the first Negro Heavyweight Champion

• February 3^rd 1948 Rosa Ingram and her fourteen-and sixteen -year-old sons condemned to death for the alleged murder of a white Georgian. Mrs. Ingram said she acted in self-defense.

• February 3^rd 1989 Tennis professional Lori McNeil defeated Chris Evert in the Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo.

*should we be glad it's pushed back, or upset it's scheduled for release during Black History Month??*

*Nas upcoming album "Ni**er," originally due in December from Def Jam, has been pushed back to February for a release during Black History Month, reports MTV News.

Nas said the first single, due sometime in January, is not the recently leaked track "What It Is." In that song, he spits: "Racist neighbors flinchin'/They don't know if I'mma rob them/ Or if I'm Russell Simmons/ They thought it was me, just like Mike Bivens/ They pray for my downfall like the mom of Robin Givens."

Nas told MTV that "What It Is" features vocals he recorded, but the track is from origins unknown.

"I never rhymed to that beat," said Nas.

A final track list for "Ni**er" is still being finalized, his camp told MTV. So far, Atlanta's DJ Toomp (T.I., Ludacris) and longtime Nas collaborator Salaam Remi have contributed beats. Diddy and his new Hitmen are also tapped to donate music before production closes in the next week or so.
