Nailah's murder, Indicted like a Serial Killer

According to the Chicago Tribune

The man accused of killing pharmaceutical representative Nailah Franklin has been indicted on more than a dozen counts of murder and kidnapping, officials in the Cook County state's attorney's office said.

Reginald Potts Jr., 31, of Chicago faces 16 counts of first-degree murder, four counts of aggravated kidnapping and one count of vehicular hijacking and robbery, said Andy Conklin, a spokesman for the state's attorney's office.

Potts has been held without bail since he was charged last month in Franklin's death. Prosecutors may seek the death penalty, officials said.
Franklin's body was found Sept. 27, eight days after she was reported missing. Prosecutors have said Potts had been in an on-again, off-again relationship with Franklin, 28, for several months before her killing.

Potts is scheduled to be arraigned Jan. 10, Conklin said.

This won't bring Nailah back, but at least the joker's no longer a danger to society. The bible says what u sow, you will also reap. And if Reginald's violent past is any indication of what he has to look forward to...well...I can't say I feel sorry for him.
Hopefully, even if all 20 charges doesn't stick, enough of them will that he'll never cross a threshold into society ever again.
I hope this news brings a small semblance of comfort to the women and families of those who were affected by this monster.

In This Case, Unfortunately It Looks Like I'm Right :(

On November 7 th I posted an article on Police Officer Drew Peterson and his missing wife-much younger wife #4 Stacy.
My words at the end of the article were, and I paraphrase- I had a feeling dude killed Stacy and his 3rd wife.

We all may not be police officers but we do know 2 +2 does not equal 7!

At the request of the family, former NY Medical Examiner Michael Baden performed an autopsy on Drew's 3rd wife and has determined she was placed in the bathtub AFTER she died following a struggle with her crazy friggin' husband in 2004.

Baden said, see Peterson case update, her bruises were consistent with those from a beatdown. Control-freak..not surprised.
Also according to a letter Kathleen wrote her family, that bully pulled a knife from around his leg and threatened to kill her.
Oh. Who did he think he was Tarzan?!

What I don't understand is how stupid police officers who commit crimes, really are!
Here you are a police officer committing crimes, but you actually believe you won't get caught.
You're supposed to use logical reasoning as an officer, aren't you?
Well, he's not a police officer any longer-he has since resigned, and I bet it was STRONGLY SUGGESTED that he resign...what do you think??

Dead man loses fingers despite carrying ID

TIRANA (Reuters) - A dead man's fingers were cut off for identification in Albania even though he was carrying identity papers and his killer confessed.

Police confirmed a media report that shocked the family of the victim, who had returned to Albania to marry his fiancee.

"This action was performed by the investigative team not only to identify the corpse, but also to clarify some doubts about the evidence," the Police Science Institute said on Thursday.

It said the removal of fingers was justified when the body was decomposed.

The man's best friend has confessed to killing him in a dispute about money on October 4. The body was found in a marsh by a shepherd eight days later.

CARSON CITY, Nev. - A killer’s execution was halted 90 minutes before he was set to die amid arguments from death penalty opponents that the state should wait until the U.S. Supreme Court reviews the constitutionality of lethal injections.

The Nevada Supreme Court issued the last-minute stay Monday for William Castillo, who beat an elderly woman to death with a tire iron.
Castillo, 34, had declined to file appeals of his own and prison officials have said he was ready to die. The American Civil Liberties Union of Nevada appealed to halt any executions in the state.


The U.S. Supreme Court agreed Sept. 25 to review the method of lethal injection used by most states. The high court will hear a challenge early next year from two inmates in Kentucky who claim that lethal injection as practiced by that state amounts to cruel and unusual punishment, in violation of the Eighth Amendment.

Executions in at least 10 states have been halted as a result of the litigation over lethal injections.

Procedure under attack
The injections, devised as a humane alternative to electrocution and the gas chamber, have come under attack in recent years amid reports that the three-drug cocktail doesn’t always work as quickly as intended and that inmates are subjected to excruciating pain.

Nevada prison officials planned to execute Castillo with double doses of three drugs — amounts so strong that the first injection likely would have caused him to immediately become unconscious.

The Nevada high court’s ruling came more than two hours after Castillo was served his final meal. The inmate had been slightly sedated as prison staffers prepared to take him to the death chamber.

Nevada Corrections Director Howard Skolnik said Castillo was disappointed when he told him about the stay.

“He asked if it would be possible to get a little more medication to calm him down and take the edge off,” the director said.

Two of Berndt’s family members had planned to witness the execution, and Skolnik said, “They were hoping for some kind of closure today which they did not get.”

ACLU welcomes decision
Lee Rowland, one of the ACLU lawyers who argued the case Monday before the Supreme Court, welcomed the decision, which was signed by all seven justices.

“Clearly, this was the right thing to do, legally and morally,” she said. “We are heartened that this decision will bring Nevada in line with the rest of the country, which has decided to await guidance from the U.S. Supreme Court.”

The dispute has not halted executions in all states. Georgia’s high court on Tuesday denied a stay of execution for a convicted killer there.

Jack Alderman is scheduled to die by lethal injection Friday. He was sentenced to death for the 1974 slaying of his wife.

The Georgia court noted the U.S. Supreme Court review in its decision.

“If that court stays the execution in this and similar cases in order to consider the issue raised herein, this court will of course comply with that determination and will closely follow every directive from that court,” the Georgia order said.

Michael Siem, one of Alderman’s lawyers, said Tuesday they would file a state habeas petition, an appeal that could go all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court.

“We’re a little surprised based on what’s going on in the rest of the country that the Georgia court didn’t issue a stay,” Siem told The Associated Press.

MEXICO CITY - An aspiring horror novelist was arrested after police discovered his girlfriend's torso in his closet, a leg in the refrigerator and bones in a cereal box, the city prosecutor's spokesman said Thursday, and police suspect he may have been responsible for two other mutilation murders as well.

Jose Luis Calva pic told police he had boiled some of his girlfriend's flesh but that he hadn't eaten it, the spokesman said, speaking on customary condition of anonymity. He said investigators were trying to determine if the chunks of fried meat found in a pan in the apartment were human.

The spokesman also confirmed other details about the crime scene released by the prosecutor's office Wednesday night: that body parts were spread throughout the apartment, and that Calva is being investigated in a total of three killings of women whose mutilated bodies had been found in and around the capital.

Calva told police he was a writer and poet — officers found the draft of a novel titled "Cannibalistic Instincts," the spokesman said.

Calva tried to escape when officers entered his apartment, but was struck by a car and had not yet recovered enough to give a statement to police, according to the prosecutors office. He was still hospitalized on Thursday, the spokesman said.

Police had come to Calva's apartment Monday to investigate the disappearance of his girlfriend, Alejandra Galeana, a 30-year-old pharmacy clerk and single mother. Her family had reported her missing on Friday and told police of her relationship with Calva, according to the prosecutor's office.

Galeana's dismembered body was discovered in a closet; a leg and flesh from an arm were in the refrigerator, and arm bones were inside a cereal box, the prosecutor's office said.

Calva also is being investigated in the mutilation killings of an unidentified prostitute in April and an ex-girlfriend, Veronica Martinez — also a single mother and pharmacy worker — whose dismembered body was found in 2004, the prosecutor's office said.

After his arrest was shown on television, Martinez's mother went to police saying Calva had also been her boyfriend, and showed officers a picture of them together. Her daughter's body was found chopped to pieces on the city's outskirts, the prosecutor's office said.

Neighbor Fermin Cruz, 41, lived several floors below Calva, and said he "seemed ill humored at times," adding, "one time he slammed the door on me."

Sheriff's Deputy Kills Six in Rampage

CRANDON, Wis. (Oct. 7) - An off-duty sheriff's deputy went on a shooting rampage early Sunday at a home where seven young people had gathered for pizza and movies, killing six and critically injuring the other before authorities took him down, officials said.

Tyler Peterson, an off-duty sheriff's deputy, killed six young people and wounded another at this house in Crandon, Wis., Sunday. The town's mayor said a sniper shot and killed the gunman.

The gunman, Tyler Peterson, was 20 years old and worked full-time as a Forest County deputy sheriff and part-time as a Crandon police officer, said Police Chief John Dennee. Three of the victims were students at the small town's high school, and three were recent graduates, a school official said.

The gunman may have graduated from the same high school. Peterson was not working at the time of the shooting, Sheriff Keith Van Cleve said. The survivor was hospitalized in nearby Marshfield, Dennee said. A Crandon police officer who fired back was treated for minor injuries and released. Gary Bradley, mayor of the city of about 2,000, said earlier Sunday that the suspect had been brought down by a sniper, but Van Cleve would not confirm that officers shot the suspect.

It wasn't immediately clear what the gunman's motive was, but the mother of a 14-year-old victim said the suspect may have been a jealous boyfriend. The shooting occurred in a white, two-story duplex about a block from downtown Crandon. "It was a pizza and movie party," Dennee said.

Three of the victims were Crandon High School students, said schools Superintendent Richard Peters, and the other three had graduated within the past three years.

"There is probably nobody in Crandon who is not affected by this," Peters said, adding that students would be especially affected. "They are going to wake up in shock and disbelief and a lot of pain."

Peters did not know whether Peterson had also graduated from the 300-student high school. But Crandon resident Karly Johnson, 16, said that she knew the gunman and that he had helped her in a tech education class. "He graduated with my brother," she said. "He was nice. He was an average guy. Normal. You wouldn't think he could do that."

One of the dead was 14-year-old Lindsey Stahl, said her mother, Jenny Stahl, 39. She said her daughter called her Saturday night and asked whether she could sleep over at a friend's house. Jenny Stahl agreed. "I'm waiting for somebody to wake me up right now. This is a bad, bad dream," the weeping mother said.

"All I heard it was a jealous boyfriend and he went berserk. He took them all out." Marci Franz, 35, who lives two houses south of the duplex, said gunshots awoke her. "I heard probably five or six shots, a short pause and then five or six more," she said. "I wasn't sure if it was gunfire initially. I thought some kids were messing around and hitting a nearby metal building."

Then she heard eight louder shots and tires squealing, she said. "I was just about to get up and call it in, and I heard sirens," she said. "There's never been a tragedy like this here. There's been individual incidents, but nothing of this magnitude." Her husband, David Franz, 36, said it was hard to accept that someone in law enforcement committed such an act.

"The first statement we said to each other was, how did he get through the system?" David Franz said. "How do they know somebody's background, especially that young? It is disturbing, to say the least."

The sheriff said he would meet with state Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen on Monday morning to discuss the case. Dennee said the state Department of Criminal Investigation will handle the case because the suspect was a deputy and officer. The Crandon School District called off classes Monday. The community, about 225 miles north of Milwaukee in an area known for logging and outdoor activities, is facing a trying time but is pulling together, Bradley said. "We are a strong community.

We always have been," he said. "This is agonizing, but we will prevail."
