Sigh...I'm not going to say this teacher was malicious in thought or intent...however I WILL say this teacher was stupid as hell. What am I talking about??
A white 7th-grade social studies teacher at Haverstraw Middle School in White Plains has apologized to a 13yr old black student for binding her up as a slave in a poor attempt to re-enact a slavery lesson.
IMO that would be the equivalent of dressing a Jewish person in striped pajamas, tattooing their arm and then saying "come on, let's take a shower..." all of which the teacher should have been sensitive and understand seeing as her name is Eileen Bernstein. NO...I'm not kidding.
After meeting with one of the two students, the parent and a member of the local chapter of the NAACP..it is said that Bernstein 'still didn't get it.' She apologized for the child being upset, but not for tying her up.
