Star Jones, Recipient of The 3rd Annual Whitney Houston/Terri McMillan Award

What the Whitney Houston/Terri McMillan Award* Is:::: This prestigious award is bestowed upon seemingly smart, intelligent, talented, prominent african-american female celebrities who by all intents and purposes APPEAR to have it all together, until their low self-esteem dictates otherwise-usually in the form of a spouse that even Lucretia the neighborhood crack head wouldn't marry. Brotha man may be a druggie, a ho', bum, DL, an opportunist etc. This brotha's issue is APPARENT TO EVERYONE except his celebrity wife. Even the lady serving hot dogs at the airport tries to warn girlfriend!

They See What They Want To See...

After years of being public fodder, her publicist's laughingstock, looking like a deranged fool as she defends the man she loves, causing record sales for tabloids and People Magazine, attempting to believe her own lies (because she's told them often enough), holding her head up high and giving everyone the 'sideye' DARING someone to say something to her face, going off on paparazzi-when she formerly loved their attention, and a career that's nosedived quicker than a 2-engine cessna- she has a moment of clarity. YES! *applause* The recipient has finally snapped out of denial, apologized to everyone she's cussed out, filed for divorce and undergoes a makeover that would make former talk show how
Jenny Jones envious, causing her career to soar to newer and greater heights.

View below as Houston accepts her name sake award, as 2nd recipient of W.H/T.M. Award, past recipient was Terri McMillan:

*******************
The 3rd annual Whitney Houston/Terri McMillan Award is being awarded to a woman who's known for her no holds barred attitude towards controversial, legal topics as well as at a smorgasbord- back in the day.

This woman is educated, a legal eagle beagle, who has had ringside seats during prominent court trials, and who's opinion was greatly respected. She's always expressed love for her mother, and father (who's not her biological dad, btw), as well as shoes. As a matter of fact, this self-proclaimed 'Diva' was spokesperson for Payless Shoe Source.

Although we know her, she needs no further introduction, she is a household name ...HOWEVER, she seemed to have lost credibility when she introduced her 'husband' Al. Eyebrows furrowed, the 'kids' snapped 3x's, necks AND eyes rolled, question marks were seen poppin' up all over the place, the most texted acronyms (in reference to Star and spouse) on celebrities' t-mo sidekicks were "WTH, WTF, SMH and IDK", and the whispers commenced in every hollywood clique. Even Paris Hilton self-centered behind was concerned.
smh

Nonplussed, Star Jones-YES STAR JONES...held her head high.
http://img2.timeinc.net/people/i/2004/04/weekinphotos/041129/sjones.jpg
She went gastric on some negroes, lost weight, had saggy skin, then she didn't have saggy skin, then she tightened up the saggy skin, then there was cleavage, then the cleavage was covered up, gf all but begged for sponsors to hook her up for her wedding (and they did), she cracked Barbra Wawa's face, and she loves her some swimsuits! She's tried several looks, and she has finally found her niche!!

That Starrrrr...I'll tell ya! (((YOU LOOKIN' GOOD GIRL!!)))

Just like in the courtroom, Star defended her 'man' to the death in the face of rumors, and contrary to the opinion of her friends.

Until recently.

Yes...Star Jones has come to out of her denial coma and has filed for divorce a month ago, March 26th to be exact.

While we're all saddened upon hearing another marriage dissolving (for that is not God's will)-some marriages should have never taken place.

I wish both parties the best.

Having said all of that-it is my pleasure to present Starlet aka 'Star' Marie Jones as the 3rd annual recipient of the Whitney Houston/Terri McMillan Award.

The image “http://blogs.sohh.com/videos/starjonesreynolds-larrykinglive.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.
Star Jones' reaction, after Larry King informs her of being a nominee for the Whitney Houston/Terri McMillan Award *sniff* lol (she's not quite ready to give up the ring just yet-after all, she DID PAY for them!)

CONGRATULATIONS GIRL! BETTA LATE THAN NEVA!! U DESERVE IT GIRL~GO 'HEAD WITH YO BAD SELF!!

***Family, who do YOU nominate for the Whitney Houston/Terri McMillan Award? Is there someone you'd LIKE to see qualify for the award?
What say you?***

*Disclaimer-if there is a such thing as a Whitney Houston/Terri McMillan Award it is strictly, purely, unequivocally coincidental-and I swear I don't get down like that...it's simply a case of great minds thinking alike, ya dig? I don't know nothin' 'bout Whitney 'cept what Bobby said in his book, and she don't know nothin' about me....except what my exes said-and don't believe nothin' they tell u, Whitney- cuz they're h8rs! Havin' said all of that...don't even think about serving me an injunction, cuz it's not that serious. Also Star...I'm showing u love, so don't be trippin over here either...i'm just glad u finally recognized! Terri, I understand you have anger issues-he's scum (God bless him, Lord!) but please be assured...God AIN'T DONE WITH ME EITHER..ok?? Having said that...i'm just having fun. Relax and enjoy your singledom :)

Well, I'll be doggone!

FUGITIVE WANTS TO SURRENDER THROUGH AL SHARPTON: Rev says he's been contacted by people in touch with NJ escapee Otis Blunt.

*Over the weekend, Rev. Al Sharpton announced that he has agreed to help arrange the surrender of Otis Blunt, one of two fugitives who escaped from New Jersey's Union County Jail on Dec. 15.

(Al Sharpton, b'low)

"I have been contacted by people that have told me they have been in direct contact" with Blunt, Sharpton said in a statement released Sunday. "I have been asked by them to help facilitate his safe surrender."

As of Monday evening, Blunt was still at large and Sharpton was still attempting to assist his return to police custody.

"I have been in touch all day with staff members of National Action Network who are traveling in regard to the request made by fugitive Otis Blunt that he would like to surrender himself," Sharpton said in a statement Monday. "I have also had our General Counsel speak to law enforcement in New Jersey and have spoken to other appropriate officials. I am prepared to move within the next 24-48 hours to personally see if I can physically facilitate Mr. Blunt's request."

Blunt, 32, and fellow escapee Jose Espinosa, 20, made national headlines when they managed an escape that resembled the breakout in Morgan Freeman's 1994 classic "Shawshank Redemption." The two used posters of naked women to hide a huge hole they created to escape.

In a note left behind for one of the prison guards, the pair wrote: "Thank you officer [name undisclosed] for the tools needed, you're a real pal, Happy Holidays," - signed [smiley face].

The duo was featured on Saturday's edition of "America's Most Wanted." The prison guard mocked by Blunt and Espinosa committed suicide last week. source

Look at Al!
Now the people trust him...do i remember a time...
I hope Al Sharpton has a banner year (or better) like last year.
He really proved himself (to me)

Sharpie & Doggy to Unite...Whenever Sharpie's Schedule Allows--I Know That's Right!

SHARPTON RESPONDS TO 'BOUNTY HUNTER':
Activist says he'll grant Dog's request to meet – but only when he finds time in his schedule.
source

*Al Sharpton released a letter to Duane "Dog the Bounty Hunter" Chapman via his National Action Network organization responding to the reality star's apology for repeatedly using the N-word in a phone conversation and request for a meeting with the activist to address the situation.
As previously reported, Chapman's phone conversation with his son Tucker, in which he used the racist term in reference to his son's African American girlfriend, was secretly recorded and leaked anonymously to the National Enquirer.
In the conversation, Chapman used the offensive word six times, ironically in a discussion about how using the N-word would destroy his television career if ever exposed. Chapman urges his son to break up with his girlfriend and also expresses concern about the girlfriend going public about his use of the N-word. (Hear excerpt of tape here.)
Once the tape leaked and flooded the Internet over the past two days, the star of A&E's "Dog the Bounty Hunter" issued a statement apologizing for his comments.
Duane 'Dog' Chapman
In his remarks, Chapman said he is meeting with his spiritual adviser, Rev. Tim Storey, who is black, and hopes to meet with other black leaders, "so they can see who I really am and teach me the right thing to do to make things right, again."
Sharpton responded in a letter Thursday that appeared on the Web site of his National Action Network. Here it is in its entirety:
November 1, 2007
Dear Mr. Chapman:
I received your call while on the road promoting a March I am leading on the United States Justice Department on November 16th in Washington, DC, along with Martin Luther King, III, and other leaders in the community against hate crimes and racial attacks around the country. The revelation of your conversation came at a time that is most frightening to a lot of people because we are in a state of crisis with the proliferation of racial attacks, hate crimes, and bias incidents in the United States and abroad. In fact, Abraham H. Foxman, the Executive Director of the Anti-Defamation League and I released an unprecedented joint statement today because of this climate. Even more concerning to me though is that the Justice Department and the federal government have failed to intervene in cases all over the country of racial bigotry and hate which is the reason we are having our march on Nov. 16th in front of the Justice Department.
As a Minister I would be inclined to meet with you despite the racist and grotesque things I heard you say, but I am not willing to rearrange my schedule around the country building up for this march to do so. If you wish to meet with me somewhere on the road that is fine, but be assured that I will not sanitize the kind of hate language that leads to the hate action that has left so many people vulnerable in America today. The company that airs the show has the right to take steps by any means when there is a public display of a character of bigotry. We did not call on your company’s action but we will not call against your company’s action, because what was said in private is now public, and they have a right to deal with their public perception.
If you are sincere that this does not reflect you, you should not only meet with us, but you should march with us on November 16th and call on the government of the United States to protect people, that unlike you don’t have publicist, don’t have lawyers, and don’t have any protection. They used to have the protection of the United States government.
In Progress,
Reverend Al Sharpton
President of National Action Network

Judiciary Committee Convenes in the Jena 6 case

Pointed Testimony, Emotional Exchanges Mark Congressional Hearing on Jena Six Case source
conyers, gavel image: google images

Jena, Louisiana is a town that has been crippled by racial tension, and it will not heal until there is justice for the Jena Six, the local NAACP president told the House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday.

The Rev. Bryan Moran and several other witnesses testifying before the panel called on the federal government to intervene to protect those hurt “by an unjust criminal justice system.”

“In Jena, two systems of justice exist. That is no longer acceptable,” Moran said.
The four-hour hearing, which Chairman John Conyers (pictured above, far right) called the first of its kind since he’s been in the House, was filled with emotional pleas and pointed criticism of the U.S. Justice Department. Though many questions were raised, the day ended without solution.
Representatives of the U.S. Department of Justice did disclose for the first time, however, that information is being gathered for a possible probe into the justice system in Jena and LaSalle Parish.

Conyers, a Michigan Democrat, convened the hearing after nearly 50,000 people rallied in the tiny Louisiana town on Sept. 20 in support of the six black youths who face jail time as a result of a school fight with a white classmate in Dec. 4.
The fight followed months of tension at Jena High School, touched off by an Aug. 31. 2006 incident where nooses were hung in a tree after blacks sat in a traditional gathering place for whites.

The whites who hung the nooses were suspended for school for nine days and given in-school suspension as well, according to testimony at the hearing. The black students were kicked out of school, and they were arrested on charges of attempted murder with bond set as high as $130,000.

Committee members and witnesses took issue with the handling of justice in Jena. J. Reed Walters, the LaSalle Parish district attorney, was invited to the hearing, but declined the invitation. He is the one who leveled the charges against the Jena Six.

“It is illegal under our Constitution to have one stand of justice for white citizens and another more harsh standard for African-Americans,” Conyers said. “Our committee is going to look at similar situations in Georgia, Texas, California, and across the country."

the fact that John Conyers has become so involved is comforting.
Being from Detroit, I know that Conyers is a man of conviction (as his wife, who looks like she'd cut you if you said something wrong . She's been known to cuss folks out, while the cameras rolling!), as
well as very vocal about racial relations. (Michigan is an extremely racist state)
This will be interesting.

Big Worm the Perm Has Spoken: And I Agree With Him!!

SHARPTON SPARKS CALL FOR ISIAH THOMAS APOLOGY: National Action Network, LA activists want Knicks coach to apologize to all black women.

source

*New York Knicks president and head coach Isiah Thomas is the latest target of activist Al Sharpton for comments made about black women during his federal sexual harassment lawsuit.

The reverend and his National Action Network are threatening to demonstrate against Thomas and the Knicks outside of Madison Square Garden this season if he doesn't apologize for suggesting that there are different standards regarding the acceptable use of derogatory language toward black women.

Thomas was convicted of sexual harassment against Anucha Browne Sanders, a former vice president of marketing for the Knicks. In a videotaped deposition, Thomas said: "A white man calling a black female 'bitch,' that is wrong with me. I am not accepting that. That's a problem for me." But, asked whether he would be as angry if the same words came from a black man, Thomas said, "Not as much. …I'm sorry to say, I do make a distinction."

"If, in fact, that's what Mr. Thomas said, he's wrong," Sharpton said at the weekly Harlem gathering of his National Action Network.

Sharpton said that during a conversation with Thomas Saturday, the Knicks coach complained that his videotaped deposition had been "spliced" in a way that took his comments out of context. "I said, 'Why have you not made that clear?' He said, 'Well, I've not been able to make it clear,"' Sharpton said, recounting the conversation.

Speaking at the Knicks' training camp in Charleston, S.C., Thomas said he hoped Sharpton would judge him based on "the facts" and not "the edited, spliced video that was leaked."
"I know what I said and what I was talking about, and how I said it was taken out of context and spliced in the video that made it say something else," Thomas said.

The deposition tape was played to a jury during a three-week civil trial that ended Tuesday in Manhattan. A jury ordered the owners of the Knicks to pay $11.6 million to Sanders, after finding she endured two years of insults and unwanted advances from Thomas.

Madison Square Garden will pay $6 million of the total judgment for condoning a hostile work environment and $2.6 million for retaliation, while chairman James Dolan will pay $3 million.
Thomas, however, was not ordered to pay any of the damages, but he is planning to appeal the ruling in an effort to save his reputation.

"I want to say this as loud as I possibly can. I'm innocent; I'm very innocent, and I did not do the things she accused me in that courtroom of doing," he said.

In Los Angeles, local civil rights leaders wrote a letter to Laker’s owner Jerry Buss Friday urging him to join the national call for Thomas to publicly apologize.

“By joining in the call for Thomas to apologize for his demeaning remarks against women, the Lakers organization will send the strong message that sexual harassment will not be condoned,” says Earl Ofari Hutchinson, President, Los Angeles Urban Policy Roundtable, and Eddie Jones, President, Los Angeles Civil Rights Assn.

*******
I'm definitely feeling Al, on the apology. However, I'm wondering if the apology has come too little, too late?
Isaiah's trippin over his statement being taken out of context, but it seems the sexual harrassment wasn't taken out of context...seeing as how he was found guilty.
The sad part is, when Isaiah lived here in Michigan, I met him at the airport and I thought he was one of the nicest of the Detroit Pistons...hmmm.
Can you be nice and still be guilty of sexual harrassment? Apparently so.
*Note To Isaiah:
You better recognize what's more important...words that you say were "taken out of context," or the treatment of women (not just black women) you come in contact with.
I truly feel sorry for your wife.

Queen? Is that you?!

A couple of days ago on my way to work...I was listening to the Steve Harvey Morning Show ">Steve Harvey Morning Show, and I caught the tail end of an interview with Queen Latifah. Her new cd is called "Trav'lin Light."

*sidebar-Now, I'm all about one being an entrepeneur and establishing an empire, building a legacy etc, but I hadn't embraced Queen Latifah (aka Dana Owens) as a singer. I just couldn't get into her do-wop-woppin. Not my cup of tea. Now...I can..U-N-I-T-YYYYYYY, U-N-I-T-Y that's a unity.... all day long. I just wasn't feelin her as a singer, remember her debut on Living Single? It was ehhh, ok.

(Back to my scheduled posting)...I did not take her seriously as a singer until...that song. My goodness, Steve Harvey played Queen's song entitled "Simply Beautiful" ft Al Green. Ok, on this day, the 27th day of September 2007, I have officially certified Queen Latifah as a singer. It is, for lack of better words, Simply Beautiful!

Several times during the song her voice strained, but instead of wincing, you felt her as she was attempting to convey the love she has inside into words for those on the outside. She has matured and grown as a singer. On a scale of 1 to 5 *****, I give Queeny (remember Crooklyn?) 4 **** . If "Simply Beautiful" is an indication of things to come on that CD, Queen Latifah will be touring soon! Do NOT sleep on this CD. Classy all the way.

*sidebar #2*- 1. The older that chile gets, the more she looks like her daddy! Her father played in Beauty Salon (believe that's the name of the movie), and he was sitting in her chair...can't miss him, they look like twins!

and 2. I'm not trying to name drop or anything, but I did have the pleasure of meeting Queen Latifah in a club moons ago, and suffice it to say she was truly just as gracious in real life as she portrays herself in media. She was pleasant engaged in conversation, and was very amicable.

(back to my scheduled posting) Now family, it's late and my eyes are burning but I must repeat, get Queen's CD entitled "Trav'lin Light" and let me know what you think. it's a nice cd to listen to, especially when you're trying to listen to something soothing instead of crickets! haha. keep it real in the Village and don't mind our idiot (like y'all don't know any)-that's just Mooky -he's harmless!

Fam-you betta recognize....Queeny is sangin' now!

Ivent!

O'Reilly's Take On Harlem Eatery Stirs Pot
Fox News Host Says Sylvia's Is Same As Any Other Restaurant "Even Though It's Run By Blacks"

NEW YORK, Sept. 25, 2007
Fox News host Bill O'Reilly (AP)

(CBS) By CBSNews.com's Brian Montopoli

Fox News host Bill O'Reilly has raised some eyebrows by saying his experience at Sylvia's, a famous Harlem restaurant, was "exactly the same" as any other restaurant in New York City, "even though it's run by blacks, primarily black patronship."

O'Reilly also said: "There wasn't one person in Sylvia's who was screaming, 'M-Fer, I want more iced tea.' "

O'Reilly talked about his visit to Sylvia's last week on "The Radio Factor," his syndicated radio program. ("The Radio Factor" is distributed by Westwood One, which is managed by CBS Radio.)

"You know, I mean, everybody was -- it was like going into an Italian restaurant in an all-white suburb in the sense of people were sitting there, and they were ordering and having fun. And there wasn't any kind of craziness at all," O'Reilly said.

Media Matters For America, a liberal media watchdog organization, first reported the comments. Karl Frisch, a spokesman for Media Matters, told The Associated Press that O'Reilly's comments were "ignorant and racially charged."

CNN, a cable news channel that competes with Fox News, picked the story up on Tuesday. According to CNN's Rick Sanchez, O'Reilly indicated in a phone conversation that "there was no racial intent in what I said."

Bill Shine, senior V.P. of programming for Fox News, said discussion of O'Reilly's comments constitutes "nothing more than left-wing outlets stirring up false racism accusations for ratings. It's sad."

O'Reilly made the comments as part of a discussion of a dinner he shared with the Rev. Al Sharpton.

Sharpton spokesperson, Rachel Noerdlinger, said in an e-mail that Sharpton "was surprised that anyone would be surprised that blacks would act that way." She said Sharpton planned to ask O'Reilly onto his radio show tomorrow to discuss the issue.

Added Noerdlinger: "Nothing Mr. O'Reilly said at the dinner itself was offensive, according to Rev. Sharpton."

As part of his comments, O'Reilly said, "Black Americans are starting to think more and more for themselves. They're getting away from the Sharptons and the Jacksons and the people trying to lead them into a race-based culture."

O'Reilly contrasted his experience at the restaurant with the image "white America" has of a black culture "dominated by Twista, Ludacris and Snoop Dogg."

A Fox News spokesperson said that O'Reilly would address the issue on "The O'Reilly Factor" tonight.

Ignorance has no boundaries...it's not because he's white I have an issue with him. I think it's his obviously desperate attempt to stay relevant in this competive world of celebrities. He's aging, balding, and jowly (who would feel good about that?!). He thrives on shock value and it matters not what people think of him, it only matters that he's spoken of.
I believe in freedom of speech, even for O'Reilly. He wants the black community to react as ignorantly as his off-color remarks. Count me out. The real tragedy would be reacting in a belligerent way, that would only confirm his beliefs about our community.
Fam, you betta recognize when your strings are being pulled.
