Don't Hate Katie Cuz She's A Celebrity and You're Not!!

Yes To Katie-No to the rest of you 60,000 NY Marathon hopefuls!

Well, it's another case of "it's-not-what-you-know-but-WHO-you-know!"

Suri's m-, Tom's wi-, I mean (clearing throat) Katie Holmes, was allowed to enter the NY Marathon after the deadline, and without being able to come in under 3h and 23min which was the qualifying time for women entrants.

Katie may have:

  • Missed the entrance deadline

  • been unable to to come in under 3h and 23min

  • not been viewed as a serious athlete

But she had something the rest of the entrants didn't:

A HOOK-UP!!

That's right--what's the use in being married to full-time Scientologist & control freak, part-time actor/producer Tom Cruise-if you can't take advantage of the benefits?? So the "powers that be"(read, god Tom) commiserated and gave Katie the esteemed title of "VIP."

hmmmmm, that's interesting. According to Sarah Hunninghake the manager of media relations with the New York Road Runners Club, which promotes the New York City Marathon is quoted as saying that VIP spots are given to "to individuals with compelling stories, who are not admitted in the traditional way."

I wonder what "compelling story" did Kate give??

I'm not going to poke fun at this chile, cuz personally while i feel sorry for her-I'm almost positive Mr. Scientology has had a GPS tracking system sewn into her clothes-I'm also proud of her for COMPLETING the marathon!

If it was me, they'd still be looking for my booty..ok?

We really shouldn't be surprised...perks come with A/B list celebrities:

They spend 1 day in jail, hit maids & personal assistants upside the head with the closest projectile available, can smoke crack -shoot up heroin and still get 7-figure contracts, allow 8yr old celebrities to have alcohol, drive on suspended licenses, have 6 dui's before the courts do something...let Kate be A VIP in the marathon!

DON'T BE H8N!

At least she's not doing anything stupid (except for her marriage) like most celebrities. That's where Suri'll come in--give her about 11 years.

*It's M.M. Monday!*-Katie, Escapes the Clutches of Scientology Entourage Long Enough To Run Marathon!

F127 aka "Marathon Mama" source

Suri's mama, err Tom's wife, I mean Katie Holmes-Cruise has exhibited how she deals with Tom & his scientology crew, she runs marathons.

It's no secret, the formua to running a marathon is thi: it's mind over matter. That is the optimal course to take (pun intended) when experiencing life's greatest challenges such as, Tom's latest Scientological antics, or trying to avoid staring at the two grapefruit halves that are bolted under Victoria Beckham's chest, passing off as breasts.

Katie clocked in at the NY marathon at 5:29. So she is able to complete a task without benefit of Tom! Amazing!

But as always, Tom was camera ready, with the most beautiful baby in the world (please note sarcasm here), Suri, in his arms awaiting Katie at the finish line.

Life as we know it, will never be the same.

Congrats Katie, on an awesome achievement!

Hercules L. Joyner, 89, passed away Sunday in his Dallas home.

A native of Plant City, FL, Joyner is father of Tom Joyner, the nationally syndicated radio personality, and Albert Joyner, owner of McDonald’s franchises in Jackson, MS.

“I really appreciate all of the sympathy and prayers expressed by all of my close friends and my listeners,” Tom Joyner said. “Those that ever had the pleasure of meeting Pops know what an inspiring life he lived and what a proud man he always was. My family and I are thankful for all of your prayers.”

Known for his dry wit and gentle ways, ‘Pops’, as he was affectionately called by family and friends, graduated from Florida A&M College with B.S. in Chemistry. While at Florida A&M, Joyner pledged with the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. and became an avid golfer. In later years, ‘The Herc’ Golf Tournament was named after him.

After he enrolled in the program to become a Tuskegee Airman, he decided to switch from a military career and instead became an accountant, later spending much of his career working for the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Tuskegee.

Joyner was the only child of Dr. Oscar Albert and Ruth Griffin Joyner, and married the late Frances Dumas, a graduate of Tennessee State University.

To share his passion for black colleges, Joyner was an active member of the Tom Joyner Foundation, created by his son in 1998 with the sole mission to help keep students enrolled in Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made on H.L. Joyner’s behalf to the Tom Joyner Foundation, P.O Box 630495, Irving, TX 75063.

God bless the Joyner family during this time of sorrow,
and may the legacy continue.

Check Mate! Homeless Man is King of Chess!!

Do your thang Mr. Murphy!!

Homeless man is chess king of Washington
source: Yahoo! News (emphasis by Ivent)

WASHINGTON (AFP) - He sleeps on a bench, but he is king of chess during the day at Washington's Dupont Circle, where he dazzles beginners and masters alike with his winning moves on the park's stone chessboards.

Tom Murphy, 49, (pictured above right) makes what little money he has from teaching his prodigious knowledge of the game to passersby for a few dollars.
"He has the title of expert in chess. This is the second highest American title; above him are master. So it means he is quite good," said Washington's Chess Center director David Mehler.

A former math and science major and a celebrity among amateurs, Murphy has made the Dupont Circle public square America's most prestigious chess park after New York's fabled Washington Square, according to some chess lovers.

"The mathematical equation has always been fascinating to me, then when you add the camaraderie, the ambiance, the open air, it's almost irresistible," said Murphy, peering over a park chessboard that draws players from all walks of life -- students, doctors, lawyers, drunkards.

Garrulous and brilliant, Murphy, grew up in North Carolina and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, two well known chess centers, and specializes in a lightning version of chess known as "blitz."
In this accelerated version of the ancient game, players are allowed five minutes for all their moves, and the game ends within 10 minutes.

"The appeal of blitz is that, maybe in two or five minutes, I may put together a work of art that might last a life time," Murphy said in his inimitable style of explaining chess basics.
The game, he said consists of "few guiding principles: king safety, fight for the center, give every piece a job."

"At blitz he is a very strong player. He has a very fast mind and he sees combinations very quickly. He calculates very quickly," said Mehler, who has been teaching the board game to underprivileged children for 15 years.
Murphy has won several chess tournaments and finished 15th in the 2005 world blitz championship.

He's not always down and out, but his addiction to booze often lands him on the street.
"The pursuit of the ego versus the pursuit of the spirit are in conflict sometimes," he explained. "I enjoy alcohol a little too much."

He attends Alcoholic Anonymous meetings and admits, "when I don't drink my chess is better."
Murphy aims to get better at chess and rise to the title of master.
"I would dearly love to go on and make my master's rating because through that I get a credibility to increase my teaching fee," he said.
"There is an upcoming tournament on Thanskgiving (November 22) in Philadelphia. That's looking promising," he added.

For now, the homeless chess teacher charges 20 to 30 dollars an hour and will match his wits with any rival for two to five dollars per game.

"Grand masters are teaching 100 or 200 bucks (dollars) an hour, masters can get at least 50, that's not bad," he said.
