What Is It Going To Take For Him To Resign??

Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick addresses the media during a news conference in Detroit, Tuesday, March 18, 2008. A nearly unified City Council voiced its displeasure with Kilpatrick on Tuesday, calling on the scandal-tainted mayor to resign. A resolution, which passed on a 7-1 vote in the early afternoon, was more of a 'no-confidence' vote. The council doesn't have the power to force Kilpatrick to step down. (AP Photo/Carlos Osorio)

DETROIT - A defiant Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick quickly rejected the City Council's call Tuesday for him to resign because of accusations that he lied under oath about not having an affair.
"You take a whole day to discuss an issue like this," he said. "My reaction is: This is over. It has no effect. It's not binding. Let's get back to work."

The resolution, passed 7-1, amounted to a "no-confidence" vote because the council lacks the power to force Kilpatrick to step down.
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy is investigating whether the mayor and former Chief of Staff Christine Beatty lied under oath when they testified in a whistle-blowers' lawsuit that they had not had a physical relationship.

Kilpatrick has been dogged by media reports about steamy text messages the two exchanged that suggest a romantic relationship.

The mayor said he could not comment on the text messages on Beatty's pager. Beatty resigned from her post in February.

City Council President Ken Cockrel Jr. would like Kilpatrick to do the same. "The message is, it's time to call it quits," he said.

The lone vote against the resolution was cast by President Pro Tem Monica Conyers, the wife of U.S. Rep. John Conyers. One councilwoman was absent because of illness.

"I believe that we have to do what's fair," Monica Conyers said following the vote. "Based upon the evidence that was presented to me, there's nothing there yet for us to say 'resign.'"

The council considered the issue two weeks ago but postponed a vote because some members said they needed more information before they could decide what to do.

"A whole lot has changed between then and now. ... My vote is not an indictment of the mayor so much as it is a request of the citizens to get back to work," said Councilwoman Barbara-Rose Collins, who supported the measure.

Worthy has said she expects a decision next week on whether she will seek perjury charges against Kilpatrick and Beatty. source

His arrogance, hard-headedness, lack of class is DEFINITELY going to be his downfall. This man-child doesn't believe he is to be held accountable. Woe unto him. smh After his inflammatory speech-I have to give this buffoon credit. He knew EXACTLY what to say to get his blind by loyalty groupies/ignant constituents hot under the collar.
Using the "N" word.
Can I keep it real?
Thank you.
I don't believe anyone called his wife Carlita (well they may be calling her the N-word NOW, after it's been revealed she beat Tamara Greene w/a wooden {read bat-IMHO} object) or his 3 kids the N-word. And if in fact-they WERE called that derogratory term...why isn't he accepting responsibility for the fall-out HE CREATED???
Are they saying Nicca bcuz of color, or bcuz of your stupid, selfish antics, Kwame??
Gimme a break.
He is not stupid by a long-shot. He IS STUPID if he thinks we can't see through that smoke screen he attempted to use by peppering his speech with the N-word.
He better sit his $3 behind down, before the citizens make change out of his habitually lying behind.
Unfortunately, I'll be watching just as I do when there's been a car accident....moving slowly, going past and shaking my head-thanking God it wasn't me who was involved.
Where's Nino Brown when you need him??
Kwame...sit your tired behind DOWN!

Also, let the record show, I'm a former Detroiter. Lived on Clements & Wildemere. If anyone knows Detroit, they know that area is STRAIGHT 'HOOD!...I moved out of Detroit 1.5 yrs ago, because everytime someone asked me about MY mayor-I'd get an attitude. He was my mayor as long as I was living in Detroit, lol
He's all show, and no substance.
I moved and haven't looked back.

A city can only be as good as it's leaders.

Kwame isn't the only fool who's in office that has embarrassed Detroit.
Don't go to a city council meeting. Lawd have mercy.
Those meetings are better than a Las Vegas fight anyday!
It's ridiculous.
Detroit's in a state of turmoil, bcuz the leaders are in a state of turmoil.

Kwame, Gone Still Have This Chile On Payroll-Please Believe it!

UPDATE:: Beatty has accepted full responsibility for her actions in the Kilpatrick/Beatty tryst. See the words in bold font in her resignation letter, below.
CHRISTINE BEATTY RESIGNATION LETTER:

January 28, 2008

Dear Mayor Kilpatrick,

I would first like to thank you and the citizens of Detroit for the opportunity to have worked for the city that I love so much over the past six years.

Serving as Chief of Staff for the Kilpatrick administration since 2002 has been an honor and a privilege. I was born and raised in Detroit and my childhood goal was always to serve my city. I came back home after college to do just that. Serving our citizens and helping to transform Detroit into an even greater city is what I've been dedicated to everyday since January 2002.

As Chief of Staff, I managed key city departments in such areas as human services and labor relations as well as administering the day to day operations of the Mayor's office. I've served the administration and Detroit citizens with diligence, strength and perserverance and I hope that my efforts will one day show through above all else.

In spite of this, however, I believe that it is clear I can no longer effectively carry out the duties of Chief of Staff. Therefore, this letter serves as my resignation effective, February 8, 2008 to allow for an orderly transition of my duties with the new chief of staff. I painfully regret the devastation that the recent reports have caused to the citizens of Detroit, to my co workers, to the Mayor's family and to my family and friends.

Again, I thank you and the citizens of Detroit for the opportunity to serve.

Sincerely,

Christine L. Beatty

Did u note my sarcasm at the beginning of this post. She regrets the devastation THE REPORTS caused...I didn't know affairs were now known as "THE REPORTS?!" You guys must keep me abreast of new slang!!

******

Sad-this mess had to get on a National laughingstock level b4 Beatty decided to kick rocks! She should've stepped down a long time ago. As mean as she is though-I wouldn't want her to catch me on a street by myself! She ......scares...me..lol

It's going to take 'all the king's horses, and all the king's men' to drag Kwame the control freak-out of his rendezvous den!
He ain't goin out without a fight, and he ain't going down in flames.

ALERT: Christine Beatty (Kwame's side dish) Resigning
WXYZ has learned that Christine Beatty is resigning her post as chief of staff for the city of Detroit. WATCH COVERAGE IN VIDEO PLAYER DETROIT

(AP) - Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick's chief of staff says she is resigning amid allegations raised last week that she and the mayor lied under oath about an affair.
Christine Beatty said today in a letter to Kilpatrick released by his office that her resignation is effective February 8th. Beatty says she believes it's clear that she can no longer effectively carry out her duties. Kilpatrick spokesman James Canning says the mayor's office had no comment on the resignation. A prosecutor on Friday launched an investigation into the allegations. They came to light when the Detroit Free Press reported details of sexually explicit text messages between Beatty and Kilpatrick. source

File this Under: There Goes the Judge...There Goes the Judge...

Circuit Judge Herman Y. Thomas

Judge Resigns Amid Probe Into Claims of Inmate Spanking

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - (AP) A judge once considered for a prominent federal appointment has resigned amid investigations of possible judicial and sexual improprieties, including allegations that he spanked male inmates in a private courthouse room.

The resignation of Circuit Judge Herman Thomas ends what was once viewed as one of Alabama's most promising legal careers, although his legal problems continue.
"We do have a criminal investigation going on," Mobile County District Attorney John Tyson said after Thomas' resignation Monday.
Thomas had been suspended with pay since March when a state judicial panel filed the first of a series of charges accusing him of unduly helping relatives and friends with their legal troubles and taking cases away from other judges -- without permission -- to change the defendants' legal status or reduce sentences.
Thomas resigned shortly before 5 p.m. Monday, which was the deadline for judicial prosecutors to file any additional charges before his Oct. 29 trial.

Hmmmmm, no pun intended but the "jury's still out on this one." I don't know what to make of it. Well--everybody knows, you CANNOT "hook" your peeps up, especially on your job! First of all--it'll be your behind in a sling, not theirs. And secondly, more importantly-you're a judge...you should've known you'd get caught. I wonder how did his colleagues find out he was taking cases away? I mean does he have a titled position (other than judge) that allows him to "take" cases away from other judges? Did they catch him in a sting? This is goin to be interesting.
Regarding spanking...there's possible improprieties. hmmm...were they young kids? adult males...this sounds weird. But if he's one of these old school bros, who's bringing back whoopin's...i ain't mad at him!! Guilty until proven innocent, I guess.
you better recognize...I hope for his sake..he's innocent.
