Randy Pausch Showed People How to LIVE while DYING...

Ray Pausch died yesterday of pancreatic cancer.
I had only recently heard about this awesome man thru my co-worker.
Randy was an accomplished computer science professor at Carnegie Mellon University, who lead an adventurous life that most of us only dream about.

Randy was a person who continually challenged himself and lived the adage, 'don't talk about it, BE ABOUT IT.
He MADE LIFE HAPPEN.

Pausch

Randy Pausch emphasized the joy of life in his "last lecture," originally given in September 2007.

I admire Randy bcuz:
  • he did not complain when given the news of his terminal disease.
  • Nor did he question, why him?
  • He made the most of what little time he had left for the benefit of others, not himself.
  • And believed wholeheartedly in 'each one, reach one, and teach one.'
Although many people don't like Wikipedia, there is an informative write-up on Pausch for those who are not familiar with him and his work.
Check out his Pausch's write-up.

With almost 4 MILLION hits on Youtube, Prof. Pausch's 'last lecture' is one of the most watch on the internet.
The speech is 1.25hrs in length, but it's well worth it.

Pop some 'corn, pull up a seat, and watch as Pausch inspires you to live YOUR DREAMS!

Thank You...

To Those Who Prayed For Me,
To Those Who Have Called Me
(I'll be returning your call-school project is due!)
THANK YOU!!

To those whose names weren't listed but PRAYED FOR ME ANYWAY...all I can say is WOW-I am truly humbled and honored by your sacrifices. I was rendered speechless upon reading the comments from those who weren't listed. I'm still teary-eyed at God's goodness and for using u to pray for me! smh

I have heard from the Lord and the way I asked the prayer to be answered it was.

I have been blessed to have an awesome man of God in my life!
First I must say that God is good!
My needs (from man of God) that will allow me to prosper in a relationship- freedom to express myself-no matter how unorthodox, or quirky; a listening ear, patience, embracing of my past, secure in himself -have been met.
And note to Dejanae**
HE DOES BALLROOM DANCE!
That's where we initially met and connected! lol

Upon listening to the hurts I've endured in the church, Jay (his name), promptly prayed for me. He did not judge me-nor did he tell me that I shouldn't forsake the assembly of the brethren (I already know that). He told me my feelings were valid, explained that these issues in the church are historical-and then he PRAYED.
He's intelligent-he has several economic theories that he's created.
And he can BALLROOM DANCE! LOL

Upon our initial serious conversation I told him I love classical music, and I would love to go to a concert and listen to Tchaikovsky.

Well, I checked my email yesterday and he forwarded to me a confirmation of two tickets to hear violinist Hilary Hahn play with Detroit Symphony Orchestra...as they play TCHAIKOVSKY!

And the concert is the day before my birthday!
I also received the most beautiful love letter from him.
*sighhhhhhhh*

Why did I ask for prayer??

  • I asked for prayer because I could not trust hearing from God correctly, myself. And James 1:5 says "But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him."

  • I was paralyzed by fear in the area of commitment.
  • I had an aversion to the thought of marriage.
  • I needed confirmation.
  • Did not want to waste his or my time.
  • Before I gave Jay an answer (yay or nay), it had to be the answer God gave me, not one given to myself from myself.
  • I did what Psalms 1:1 advised:
1 How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!
2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night.
3 He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, Which yields its fruit in its season And its leaf does not wither; And in whatever he does, he prospers.
4 The wicked are not so, But they are like chaff which the wind drives away.
5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, Nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
6 For the LORD knows the way of the righteous, But the way of the wicked will perish.

Because I don't play with the things of God, it was important that I seek those who communicate with God to pray on my behalf, in addition I sought the counsel of mature Christians (mature Christians who live by the word of God EVERYDAY).
It has been confirmed, Jay, was sent from God to me.

While I am scared...I no longer walk in fear.
I've never trusted a man
(due to the attached strings and bullcrap that would land me in jail/prison)...but I trust Jay.
I trusted God to an extent with my life, and He is using Jay to show me how to put ALL of my trust in Him-for my steps are ordered by Him.

I'll elaborate later, but I just wanted to thank you all for taking time out of your biz lives to look out for a sista! U have NO IDEA how I felt knowing people, whom faces I've never seen b4-pics do no justice, were praying for me. I'm truly amazed at the goodness of God.

And I promise to hold up the words I spoke at Black Male Appreciation in regards to My Black Man.

Ok y'all I'm tired.
After school, it be BAU (biz as usual) and the blogging will return.
THANK YOU!!

My thoughts and prayers are with the Levert Family, as they mourn the death of their 2nd son Sean, less than one year after the passing of their older son, r&b singer Gerald.

Here We Go Again...Shooter Shoots Others, Then Self...sigh

BREAKING NEWS UPDATE:

A sixth person shot by a gunman at Northern Illinois University has died, the coroner's office tells CNN.

Gunman kills 5, then self at Northern Illinois University

DEKALB, Ill. — A former student dressed in black opened fire with a shotgun and two handguns from the stage of a lecture hall at Northern Illinois University on Thursday, killing five students and injuring 16 others before committing suicide, authorities said.

The gunman fatally shot four women and a man in a "brief, rapid-fire assault" that sent terrified students running for cover, university President John Peters said. Four died at the scene, including the gunman, and the other two died at a hospital, he said.

Students are consoled outside Cole Hall at Northern Illinois University after a shooting on campus Thursday.

Witnesses in the geology class said "someone dressed in black came out from behind a screen in front of the classroom and opened fire with a shotgun," Peters said.

Lauren Carr said she was sitting in the third row of the lecture hall around 3 p.m. when she saw the shooter walk through a door on the right-hand side of the stage, pointing a gun straight ahead.

"I personally Army-crawled halfway up the aisle," said Carr, a 20-year-old sophomore. "I said I could get up and run or I could die here."

She said a student in front of her was bleeding, "but he just kept running."

"I heard this girl scream, 'Run, he's reloading the gun.'"

Student Jerry Santoni was in a back row when he saw the gunman enter a service door to the stage.

"I saw him shoot one round at the teacher," he said. "After that, I proceeded to get down as fast as I could."

Santoni dived down, hitting his head the seat in front of him, leaving a knot about half the size of a pingpong ball on his forehead.

The teacher, a graduate student, was wounded but was expected to recover, the school president said. He did not give details of the injuries.

Peters said the gunman was a former graduate student in sociology at NIU, but was not currently enrolled at the 25,000-student campus about 65 miles west of Chicago.

"It appears he may have been a student somewhere else," University Police Chief Donald Grady said, adding that police had no apparent motive.

Seventeen victims were brought to Kishwaukee Community Hospital in DeKalb, according to spokeswoman Theresa Komitas. One died, two were admitted and three were discharged; five are being evaluated and six others were transferred to other hospitals in critical condition. At least one male died at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, an official said.

Michael Gentile was meeting with two of his students directly beneath the lecture hall when the shootings happened. He could hear the chaos a few feet above his head.

"The shotgun blast must have been so loud," said Gentile, a 27-year-old media studies instructor. "It sounded like something was dropping down the stairs... We had no idea what this was."

Then, shorter, sharper noises he recognized as handgun shots.

"There was a pretty quick succession ... just pow, pow, pow," said Gentile, who didn't leave his office for about 90 minutes. He used a surveillance camera just outside his office to confirm that the people knocking on his door were police.

George Gaynor, a senior geography student, who was in Cole Hall when the shooting happened, told the student newspaper the Northern Star that the shooter was "a skinny white guy with a stocking cap on."

He described the scene immediately following the incident as terrifying and chaotic.

"Some girl got hit in the eye, a guy got hit in the leg," Gaynor said outside just minutes after the shooting occurred. "It was like five minutes before class ended too."

Witnesses said the young man carried a shotgun and a pistol. Student Edward Robinson told WLS that the gunman appeared to target students in one part of the lecture hall.

"It was almost like he knew who he wanted to shoot," Robinson said. "He knew who and where he wanted to be firing at."

The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms sent 15 agents to the scene, according to spokesman Thomas Ahern. He said information about the weapons involved would be sent to the ATF's national database in Washington and given urgent priority. The FBI also was assisting.

All classes were canceled Thursday night and the campus was closed on Friday. Students were urged to call their parents "as soon as possible" and were offered counseling at any residence hall, according to the school Web site.

The school was closed for one day during final exam week in December after campus police found threats, including racial slurs and references to shootings earlier in the year at Virginia Tech, scrawled on a bathroom wall in a dormitory. Police determined after an investigation that there was no imminent threat and the campus was reopened. Peters said he knew of no connection between that incident and Thursday's attack. Peters said he knew of no connection between that incident and Thursday's attack.

The shooting was the fourth at a U.S. school within a week.

On Feb. 8, a woman shot two fellow students to death before committing suicide at Louisiana Technical College in Baton Rouge. In Memphis, Tenn., a 17-year-old is accused of shooting and critically wounding a fellow student Monday during a high school gym class, and the 15-year-old victim of a shooting at an Oxnard, Calif., junior high school has been declared brain dead.

*sigh, smh*

Bonus Holiday Episode of "Shysters & Perverts in Jesus' Name," Richard Roberts Quits as President of O.R.U.

Because hot mess in the church never sleeps, Shyster & Perverts in Jesus' name is able to air a bonus holiday clip. This episode entails Richard Roberts, Oral Roberts' son, stepping down as president of Oral Roberts University. And now...tune in to the bonus episode of, Shysters & Perverts in Jesus' name...

(CNN) -- Richard Roberts, the embattled president of Oral Roberts University and the son of its namesake evangelist founder, stepped down Friday, according to the school's Board of Regents.

(Richard & Lindsay Roberts on Larry King Live, Oct '07)

"I love ORU with all my heart. I love the students, faculty, staff and administration, and I want to see God's best for them," Roberts wrote in his resignation letter.

Roberts' decision was effective immediately and came as the school fought a wrongful termination lawsuit filed by three professors who accused him and his wife of misconduct.

John Swails, Tim Brooker and Paulita Brooker said they lost their jobs after reporting information indicating that Roberts and his family lavishly spent school money for personal expenses.

Roberts and his wife, Lindsay, have denied the allegations.

The suit also claimed Oral Roberts University gave a "convicted sexual deviant unrestricted access to students" and evidence in the case had been shredded -- charges the university has denied.

In addition, the suit alleged Lindsay Roberts repeatedly spent time with an "underage male" in various situations. She denied any improper behavior, insisting in a statement that she had "never, ever engaged in any sexual behavior with any man outside of my marriage."

The Board of Regents, which voted to hire an auditor to look into the claims, will meet early next week to discuss a search process for a new president, according to Friday's statement from Chairman George Pearsons.

Roberts announced last month he would step aside temporarily as president, saying he and his family had suffered "heavy damage."

The controversy has drawn international attention to the private Christian university in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
