A granddaughter of a preacher embroiled in lawsuits over sexual and financial wrongdoings went public this week with shocking testimony she gave months ago in a court deposition.

It was the latest in years of allegations of sexual misconduct by Bishop Earl Paulk, who led one of Atlanta's biggest churches for decades.

Depositions, testimony given by witnesses preceding a trial, are typically not public record in DeKalb State Court, but Penielle White talked about hers to a Fox 5 WAGA-TV reporter this week.

White said her grandfather, Bishop Paulk, touched her and a friend Jessica Battle, in "inappropriate areas" years ago when the two girls were spending the night together at Paulk's house. White was about 8 at the time.

Paulk denied the allegations in a statement through his attorneys Friday.

He also denied them when Battle sued him in 1991 for molestation, which she claimed included fondling, oral sex and sex.

Paulk settled the suit out of court in 2003, to cut legal costs, he said.

White's deposition is part of other, long-running lawsuits by Mona and Bobby Brewer, former staff members at Paulk's church, which used to be called Chapel Hill Harvester in DeKalb County. It was a nationally known church with more than 10,000 members and a TV ministry.

Mona Brewer claims Paulk used his position to coerce her into a sexual relationship. Bobby Brewer, her husband, claims he lent the church money and was never repaid.

Paulk reacted through his attorneys to his granddaughter's statements. "Bishop Paulk denies the allegations made by Penielle. He is saddened and confused by the interviews of his daughter [Beth Bonner] and granddaughter," it says.

The statement went on to say that Paulk had seen the Bonner family over Thanksgiving and hopes for reconciliation.

Beth Bonner also gave a television interview, apologizing to the families who had been hurt by the events and saying she believes the claims of several women that Paulk had sex with them.

White and Bonner did not return phone calls.

The Rev. D.E. Paulk now heads the church, which is called the Cathedral at Chapel Hill. Attendance has fallen to fewer than 2,000.

He returned to take the reins of the church more than a year ago.

He grew up believing he was Bishop Paulk's nephew, but learned this summer through a court-ordered DNA test that he is actually his son.

D.E. Paulk's mother is married to Bishop Paulk's brother.

D.E. said he can say little because of the Brewers' suits and because the bishop is being criminally investigated in Cobb County, suspected of lying in a deposition.

In his deposition, Paulk said he has had sex only with his wife and Brewer.

D.E. Paulk said, "I am inheriting someone else's issues. That does not mean that I condone [anything bad that has happened]," he said.

"But we are saddened that this has gotten so ugly and so many people have been hurt by all of this."

eks has posted a video to his wife on www.whatlovetaughtme.com to say he's sorry for writing a tell-all book that uses examples from his broken marriage to teach others about relationships.

The book, "What Love Taught Me," was coincidentally released by Global Destiny Publishing after Bynum dished about her stormy marriage to Weeks in a two-part interview in Essence magazine.

On Monday, Weeks, appeared on the Tom Joyner Morning Show to announce the debut of his book, which was selling for $13.95. It included pages detailing what Weeks said were the couple's "weaknesses" in chapters with titles like "Opposites Attract, But Do They Last," and "She Wanted To Be the Next Oprah at Any Cost,"

About 48 hours later, "What Love Taught Me" was yanked from distribution with this message on his website to his wife and his Global Destiny church family: "I want to speak to my wife," Weeks pleads. "I haven't been able to talk to her since Aug. 21, but I want to share something very personal and heartfelt. ... I have wounded her emotionally in the last 48 hours. I want to say publicly, globally and privately from my heart, I'm sorry. I am pulling every book that would have been shipped."

Weeks, an author and leader of a global ministry, promises a "full refund" to those who have ordered the book and says he will re-release it at another date under a new title, "What Love Taught Me — Only."

Juanita Bynum's publicist Amy Malone said Friday that Bynum had not seen the book and didn't press Weeks to pull it.

"She had nothing to do with it," Malone said. "They have not spoken."

Malone said Bynum's brother, Tom Bynum, is scheduled to appear on the Tom Joyner Morning Show Friday to discuss the matter.

Bynum, a Pentecostal pastor, author and gold-selling gospel singer, and Weeks have been separated since spring.

On Aug. 21, Bynum accused Weeks of beating, choking and stomping her to the ground in a hotel parking lot. He has been charged with aggravated assault, making terroristic threats and simple battery.

The couple's divorce is pending in Gwinnett County Superior Court. A mutual restraining order prevents harassing contact between them.

However, in his video apology to his wife, Weeks thanks Bynum for sending him a "prayer shawl" and says he will be sending her a gift too — a book his father gave him that helped his spiritual life.

"My love for you still stands. I still appreciate everything you have done for me and have done for this ministry," Weeks says in the video message. "No matter where we go in life I will always pray for you."

Weeks has launched a four-day fast at Global Destiny in Duluth so that the congregation can pray for strength and healing for themselves and their leaders. A "Shut In" will be held Friday at 11 p.m. The sermon will be broadcast live on the Internet. In the video apology, Weeks invites Bynum to come back to the pulpit of the church they started to preach at 5 a.m. Sunday, even if it means he has to leave the building because "of the legal situation right now."

Weeks' divorce lawyer Randy Kessler said he was not involved in the decision to publish the book, yank it or apologize to Bynum.

"I have stayed out of that," he said. And as far as he knows the couple is still headed for divorce even though Weeks in his video longs for the day when he and Bynum can "sit down and rejoice over dinner as family again."

Kessler said "there is still a case pending, but if two people want to reconcile the last thing we are going to do is push divorce.

Sheeples are good for being pimped at conferences...they're like conference "groupies." They will use all of their vacation days for a conference! But what's a sheeple to do when there's TWO false teachers' ministering at the same time?? This calls for creative scheduling, as Weaks' soon-2-b-x-wife Juanie B, has scheduled her Domestic Violence Conference for the same weekend, Valentine's Weekend 2008!

All is not lost...although Juanie B is "scheduled" to have a conference in February, she has nothing in stone at her website. However...she doesn't seem like the type that'll back away from a challenge. This would be right up her alley to have the conference in order to prove something to BTWIII.

This has great potential to get ugly, but if they allow to come in and minister to them, Valentine's Day can prove to be a day of healing for them both.

Weaks alleged that Juanie was not forthcoming in truthfulness regarding the stomp down to the ground in Atlanta two mos. ago, and that she put those bruises on herself! (the horror)




The latest episode comes from Juanie B's side and she's upset because she says her husband is trying to destroy her name. She alleges Weaks is doing exactly what he said he would do,and that is besmirch her name.

National evangelist Juanita Bynum took issue Friday with her estranged husband's claims that her interview in a popular woman's magazine stretched the truth.

Bynum is being featured in Essence magazine this month in an interview about her tumultuous relationship with Bishop Thomas W. Weeks III.

Bynum has accused her husband of beating, choking and stomping her in an Atlanta hotel parking lot on Aug. 21.

Weeks, who has denied the abuse, held a press conference Wednesday to dispute Bynum's claims in the magazine. The bishop said he was looking forward to the time when the judicial system would "vindicate" him.

On Friday, Bynum had her say: "Bishop Weeks is doing exactly what he promised he would do and that is, try to destroy my name with lies, fabrications and exaggerations," the pastor said in a statement provided by her publicist, Amy Malone. "His behavior is to be expected."

Bynum said the facts of the case against Weeks speak for themselves. He was charged with aggravated assault, terroristic threats and simple battery for the alleged attack on his wife. A bellman witnessed the attack and was later interviewed by police. Authorities also have photos of her bruises.

Bynum discusses the attack in detail in Essence magazine, which is featuring a two-part interview with the pastor that will continue next month.

"At this stage of my ministry/career with major projects pending, I would not have had any motive to stage my own attack and bring worldwide negative press to myself," Bynum said in the statement. "... I am confident in the power of truth! I was Juanita Bynum when I walked into this marriage and I will continue to be Juanita Bynum as I exit from this marriage in spite of all false allegations that have come against my name."

The couple's divorce is still pending in Gwinnett County Superior Court.
