Mom, 11, an 'extremely sad' case
Her mother's boyfriend accused of molestation

The baby's birth at University Hospital on Nov. 4 was routine.

What wasn't routine was the fact that the infant's mother was just 10 at the time, impregnated by her mother's boyfriend.

Now, social workers are trying to figure out how to unravel the mess involving one of the youngest children ever to give birth in Greater Cincinnati.

Prosecutors were in court Wednesday to discuss what to do with both children, the newborn and her now 11-year-old mom.

The court session in Hamilton County Dependency Court on Wednesday was primarily a status session on how the baby and young mother are doing.

At the same time, Lockland police were in Columbus talking to a convict whose DNA shows he's the baby girl's father.

Michael Chaffer, 40, is accused of impregnating his girlfriend's 10-year-old daughter, according to Hamilton County prosecutors.

The baby's birth set off an investigation by the Hamilton County Department of Job and Family Services and stunned social workers because the baby's mother is so young.

The baby has been taken from her mother and put in a foster home while the mother is now being taken care of by a relative. Her mother is not allowed to see the baby and can only see her daughter when supervised by social workers.

Lawyers jammed the courtroom Wednesday, representing the prosecutor's office and three generations of the family.

Authorities became aware of the birth after the girl, now 11, delivered the baby at University Hospital. Hospital officials notified JFS because the mother was so young.

The girl and the infant were allowed to remain in the mother's home while JFS investigated the case.

As JFS investigated, several relatives of the girl contacted the agency saying Chaffer sexually abused the girl for a "period of time."

The girl's mother was warned not to let any adult men in her Lockland home while caseworkers tried to track down the infant's father.

Prosecutors say the girl's mother ignored that order, and when a caseworker made a surprise visit to her Lockland home Jan. 4, they found Chaffer.

Two other men were eliminated as the baby's father before Chaffer's DNA was tested.

Paternity was not determined until Wednesday morning.

Assistant Hamilton County Prosecutor Lee Slocum said Chaffer faces criminal charges for impregnating and sexually molesting a girl under the age of 13.

Lockland Police Chief James Toles said two officers were interviewing Chaffer on Wednesday in a Columbus prison, where he is serving a one-year sentence on an unrelated charge.

Sex with a child under 13 is considered statutory rape, a crime punishable with a life prison term.

The 11-year-old girl's mother is also under investigation, Slocum said, for allowing her daughter to be abused.

Job and Family Services workers can't remember a case in which a girl so young gave birth.

"Unfortunately, sexual abuse is pretty common in the cases we see," said JFS Director Moira Weir. "But it is highly unusual and extremely sad to see a case where a 10-year-old becomes pregnant.

"This is an example of why everyone in the community needs to be extremely vigilant about watching for the signs of abuse and notifying us through our 241-KIDS hot line," she added. "The sooner we can intervene, the sooner we can make sure the child is in a safe situation."

Hamilton County prosecutors want a court designation that the 11-year-old girl was abused. They allege the 11-year-old's mother failed to care for her by allowing Chaffer near her.

Prosecutors also want to take the infant away from the mother because the sixth-grade student is too young to care for the baby.

As she waited for the hearing to start, the child, who was wearing faded jeans and a T-shirt hoody with her hair tied into a ponytail, sat next to her mother. She chatted about school, music and Disney video games.

During the hearing, as prosecutors and attorneys discussed the case and the possibility that the 11-year-old could lose her baby, she wiped away tears with the palms of her hands.

At Wednesday's hearing, Magistrate Charles Milazzo determined the girl could visit her baby at least twice a week.

But he said the 11-year-old girl's mother may see her only if social workers can supervise the visits, and that she may not see the baby.

When the caseworker found Chaffer in the home Jan. 4 - a violation of JFS' order that no men be in the home - they arrested him on a charge of obstruction of official business.

Court records show Chaffer slammed the door on the officer and refused to open it.

Chaffer pleaded guilty to that charge the next day, which violated his probation on an earlier drug charge. As a result he was sent to prison for one year.

JFS immediately took the 11-year-old girl and infant from the home. source

On Wednesday, the family of 10-month-old Da'Niyah Marie Jackson of Troy Hill will face her accused killer in court. But Monday they were concentrating on making funeral arrangements for the doe-eyed girl who police said was beaten and sexually assaulted by her mother's live-in boyfriend. "She wasn't one of those babies that was really loud or cried all the time," said Clarence Jackson, the baby's grandfather. "She was quiet. She just kind of looked around with those big eyes and took it all in. You couldn't have asked for a better baby."
The infant died Saturday at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh from abdominal injuries that led to the failure of part of her small intestine known as the jejunum, according to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office.

The Police yesterday filed a homicide charge against Clinton Smith, 30, who was jailed on charges of aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, rape and endangering a child. His preliminary hearing is slated for Wednesday in Municipal Court. The baby's mother, LaToya Jackson, left the child with Smith to go to her job as a waitress at a North Side restaurant, police said.
She told police she returned to find her child bruised and unresponsive. Jackson called 911 when the baby went into cardiac arrest and began having seizures. Smith told detectives he and his toddler son were the only ones home with Da'Niyah all day. The family hasn't finalized funeral arrangements for Da'Niyah, but has arranged a memorial fund to help defray the cost. Donations to the Da'Niyah Marie Jackson Memorial Fund can be made at any PNC bank branch. LaToya Jackson declined to comment yesterday. "We're just in shock," said Clarence Jackson Jr., Da'Niyah's uncle. "We had to set up a fund because we didn't have insurance on the baby, because who thinks to take out insurance on an infant?
"We just can't believe this. We can't believe it happened. She was a sweet baby."source

This is another example of what can happen when you trust strange men with your kids!! Please Everybody!! If you meet someone and call yourself falling in love all fast, that's fine and good BUT, leave the babies out of it. This day and age there are so many sick and twisted people on the inside and picture perfect on the surface. You do not know what lies in the minds of people in this day and age, I don't care how sweet they treat you and yours. We are living in a world where people do not fear God an d a s a result- there is no limit to the sick acts people do. Especially with our children. We (as mothers) have to protect our little ones!!! Even if it means giving up a personal life for a while. Put the babies first!

Eunice Lopez has been charged with bigamy, accused of marrying 10 men between 2002 and 2006 without divorcing any of them, federal immigration authorities say. The Miami Herald reported Saturday that a records search by the newspaper found seven additional marriages under the bride's name and birth date.

Lopez arrived in South Florida from Cuba in 2002 and was a legal U.S. resident.

"I can tell you that none of the individuals she married had any type of residency," said Terry Chavez, a spokesman for the Miami-Dade office of the state attorney.

Prosecutors say she charged her husbands an unspecified amount to help them secure immigration status and continued asking the men for money long after the wedding, threatening to expose them if they didn't pay.

Chavez said the state attorney's office began investigating after being tipped off by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Lopez was released on $18,000 bond. Her last known address was in Hialeah, just north of Miami. A telephone listing for her could not be located, and it was not known whether she had an attorney.

Photographs from Philadelphia’s Benjamin Franklin Parkway 10 years ago on Oct.25 showed to America and the world a sea of women -- mostly black -- marching together in a call for unity and empowerment to tackle issues plaguing women and their families.

Two separate events this week in the City of Brotherly Love will celebrate the spirit of that day of empowerment and encourage black women to continue the quest for self-improvement and improvement of a people, organizers said.

Beginning Thursday at 3 p.m. at Eakins Oval, more than 5,000 women are expected to go “Back to the Parkway” in the event organized by Sistahs of the Million Woman March. That group includes eight of the organizers of the 1997 march, said Asia Coney, one of the march's original planners.

A smaller crowd is expected this year because they did not issue a national call for women to come to this city for this event.

“To borrow a line from our elders, we needed to clean up our own house before inviting other in,” Coney told BlackAmericaWeb.com. Still, several thousand are expected to participate from the region and a few larger cities, she said.

Where has the time gone??

I remember my friends and I packed into the van, and headed to Philly from Detroit. We drove through torrential rains, we were driving blind that's how heavy the rain was. Then we'd follow cars that had "million woman march" signs in their windows, and cars followed ours cuz we had signs in our windows.

My most favorite sign that I placed in the window was

"Million Woman March or bust!"

the camaraderie was electrifying bcuz all of us black sisters knew this trip had purpose.

It was almost a no-go because when we were almost at Philadelphia, we stopped to eat in a suburb, a rural suburb-have no idea of the name, but when we walked inside of Denny's-all conversation ceased and as Tupac would've said...

"all eyes on me!"

I acknowledged the stares, but my stomach reigned supreme, and decided they could stare while i'm eating cuz i'm not leaving out w/out my Chicken Finger Salad.

That night we arrived in Philly and we weren't impressed. As a matter of fact-it was downright, rough!

We all decided we needed a shower and stopped at the first place, a motel, we came to.

Lawd, why did we do that??

It was a motel for crackheads and hookers! We rationalized that we weren't spending the night there, simply taking a shower...so we pressed our way in.

The man at the window was a schmuck, and there was a roach on the wall that froze when he saw us. I guess he thought he was invisible. we still pressed towards the room. it had a funky smell, and went to the bathroom, and it was filthy. that's it....shower can wait til we get to Marriott!

We were there all of 8 min and declared a refund was in order.

The man at the window decided contrary.

Not being one to accept "no" as an answer-I advised him to reverse his decision. We're from Detroit and I don't think he wants any of this!

Not until I threatened to call the police and advise them of drug use did he refund the money!

We had an issue with a waitress who attempted to inflate EVERY BLACK patrons' bill by approx $35-$40!

Can you say revolution?!

We almost turned that place out before the MWM festivities went down. :)

There were lots of hugs, tears, words of exhortation, hand holding, smiles, nods, and respectful salutations by all.

I'll always remember the MWM,and my being a part of history, but i have no desire to go back to Philadelphia!

You better recognize--revolution will always effect change, and change takes courage!

Who said Tyler Perry couldn't top the box office without Madea?
After a heavy marketing push from Lionsgate that included promotional appearances on "The Oprah Winfrey Show," "Regis & Kelly" and the late night talk shows – not to mention Perry's own e-mail plea for folks to see the film during opening weekend – "Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married?" debuted as the No. 1 weekend film with $21.5 million, according to studio estimates Sunday.
The movie, starring Perry, Janet Jackson, Malik Yoba and Jill Scott, came in well ahead of George Clooney's critically-acclaimed legal drama "Michael Clayton," Cate Blanchett's period piece "Elizabeth: The Golden Age" and the Joaquin Phoenix/Mark Wahlberg crime saga "We Own the Night."

Though "Tyler Perry's Daddy's Little Girls" had a luke warm opening earlier this year, "Why Did I Get Married?" joined his previous Madea-starring hits "Madea's Family Reunion" and "Diary of a Mad Black Woman," which also opened at No. 1.

Disney's "The Game Plan" starring The Rock fell from its box office perch last week to No. 2, as of Sunday afternoon. But its $11.5 million was neck-and-neck with "Michael Clayton's" $11.1" in ticket sales, according to early estimates. Exact rankings will be available later today.

BRUSSELS – A ten-year-old girl from Charleroi gave birth to a baby last year. The father was 13.
"The pregnancy was a big surprise to the girl and her mother," says doctor Robert Chef from Charleroi. "The child came to me with unexplained abdominal pain. She had also put on weight.

Her mother had even put her on a diet for a while but that had little effect. When we examined her it turned out she was nine months pregnant. The child was carrying a full term baby."

What surprised the doctor the most was that the 10-year-old really looked her age. "Some girls look like a teenager of 15 or 16 at that age. But not this girl."

Still the delivery went smoothly. The young mother was given special treatment however. She was not admitted to the regular maternity ward lest this raise too many curious questions. She was given a bed in the children's ward.

"The father of the baby came to visit her there as well. Many pregnancies in young girls are the result of incest. But that was not at all the case here. The father was a schoolmate of 13. A young guy as well."

Robert Chef says the parents of the girl did not respond angrily. "The grandmother immediately took charge of the baby. She said she would raise it as her own child."

Yesterday the medical weekly De Huisarts reported that 57 Belgian 10-year-olds had been prescribed a birth control pill last year. Some for medical reasons, but others for actual birth control.
