Tonex, formerly known as a gospel singer??

TIME TO MOVE ON: Tonex talks about the future
source

Gospel music fans have moved on from the chaos surrounding Tonex's "The Naked Truth" video. controversial vid And so has he.

The controversial singer says he's moving on to acting and book writing.

"I just filmed "The Hustle" with Charlie Murphy, David Alan Grier and Kym Whitley," he told us. "And I'm working with Janet Jackson her new album and a couple of songs with Michael."

Does this mean his gospel music career is over? Tonex says [fans] will hear from him internationally (London). He may release an album in fall 2008. Domestically, he's sticking with acting.

Why is he doing it this way? "Less is more," he says. "If you pull back, you get launched forward. Always keep them guessing. A lot of the gospel artists, you see them all of the time. Sometimes you have to pull back to launch forward."
***
I'm not really sure where I am on the map as far as Tonex's concerned.
He has exhibited frustration, anger and hurt towards the church that is alarmingly familiar to me.
I do remember his androgynous phase too. Who was he rebelling against?
I hope that he finds joy and peace in Christ, and sincere people in the entertainment business who are not wolves in sheep clothing.
Check out my favorite song by him, which is "(Lord) Make Me Over, Again" (see the vid below)

13 year-oldStudent Safe After Running Away with Teacher to Mexico

Lexington Teacher Booked Into U.S. Jail
FBI Agents Find Nebraska Teacher, Student In Mexico

OMAHA, Neb. -- A Lexington junior high school teacher was back in the United States Saturday afternoon after FBI agents from San Diego took her to the Imperial County Jail in El Centro, Calif.

Kelsey Peterson was found with her 13-year-old student in Mexico on Friday night. The minor was released to his relatives in Mexico, ABC reported.
Peterson is accused of having a sexual relationship with the boy. Peterson was a sixth-grade math teacher and basketball coach at Lexington Middle School. The boy is an eighth-grade student at the school.

U.S. Attorney Joe Stecher said Peterson's vehicle entered Mexico this week.
"We do know the vehicle she was traveling in did cross the border. We know that because the license plate was captured by a camera. It's reasonable to assume they were in the vehicle," Stecher said.

The FBI said agents were in Mexico on Friday working with Mexican police to track down Peterson and the boy.
The FBI said around 7:30 p.m. central time, Peterson and the boy were found in Mexicali, Mexico. They were taken into custody by officials from the Baja California State Preventive Police Agency.
FBI agents from the San Diego Field Office and the FBI Imperial County Resident Agency Office said they were on their way to Mexicali to meet with Mexican authorities.

"Anytime you have an adult taking advantage of a child, this is a child 13 years old, it becomes priority," Stecher said. "It's a manipulative crime. You talk about a 13-year-old. How much influence has been put on them for this and you don't know what direction it will turn."
It's believed that a police investigation caused Peterson and the boy to flee to Mexico, ABC News reported. Authorities wanted to know if the teacher was having an intimate relationship with they boy after the eighth-grader's family reported deep suspicions.

The boy's cousin, Jessica Vera, told ABC that the teen was always at Peterson's house and they spent a lot of time together.
Peterson had been put on administrative leave a day before she apparently left town with the
boy.

Lexington Principal Todd Chessmore said he had no reason to have acted earlier.
"There was no prior indication that we should be concerned," Chessmore told ABC.

Peterson faces charges, according to Dawson County Attorney Elizabeth Waterman.
"I have charged her with one count of kidnapping, with felony child abuse and with contributing to the delinquency of a minor," Waterman said.

Peterson also faces federal charges, including transporting a minor across state lines or a foreign border for sexual activity. If found guilty, the conviction could carry a 10-year prison sentence.
Stecher told KETV NewsWatch 7 that Peterson and her alleged victim will be interviewed on their return, and the appropriate charges will be filed expeditiously.

Last week, love letters between the boy and Peterson were allegedly discovered on the teacher's school computer. In one letter, court records show, the boy said he loved Peterson and their relationship wasn't "just about sex."

The records show that Peterson also admitted to her father she was having a sexual relationship with a student, but she told him the boy was 16.
The two disappeared from Lexington on Saturday.

1st- let me say i'm very glad this child has been found safe.

secondly-I want to know, why is it that teachers are finding STUDENTS (CHILDREN) attractive??

I don't like hearing teens speak for more than 5 minutes, so i couldn't fathom the thought of assuming a relationship with one!! these kids are young and impressionable.
Did kelsey believe she could get away with this???
My male co-worker believes it's different for young men then it is for young women. He says that losing your virginity as a teenager (kid) to an older woman is not equal to molestation, pedophilia etc-in the eyes of the kid. Could he be correct.
And even if it were true, is it RIGHT for an adult to manipulate a CHILD????
What about possible trauma, damage in the long run, the grand scheme of things?

Sharpie & Doggy to Unite...Whenever Sharpie's Schedule Allows--I Know That's Right!

SHARPTON RESPONDS TO 'BOUNTY HUNTER':
Activist says he'll grant Dog's request to meet – but only when he finds time in his schedule.
source

*Al Sharpton released a letter to Duane "Dog the Bounty Hunter" Chapman via his National Action Network organization responding to the reality star's apology for repeatedly using the N-word in a phone conversation and request for a meeting with the activist to address the situation.
As previously reported, Chapman's phone conversation with his son Tucker, in which he used the racist term in reference to his son's African American girlfriend, was secretly recorded and leaked anonymously to the National Enquirer.
In the conversation, Chapman used the offensive word six times, ironically in a discussion about how using the N-word would destroy his television career if ever exposed. Chapman urges his son to break up with his girlfriend and also expresses concern about the girlfriend going public about his use of the N-word. (Hear excerpt of tape here.)
Once the tape leaked and flooded the Internet over the past two days, the star of A&E's "Dog the Bounty Hunter" issued a statement apologizing for his comments.
Duane 'Dog' Chapman
In his remarks, Chapman said he is meeting with his spiritual adviser, Rev. Tim Storey, who is black, and hopes to meet with other black leaders, "so they can see who I really am and teach me the right thing to do to make things right, again."
Sharpton responded in a letter Thursday that appeared on the Web site of his National Action Network. Here it is in its entirety:
November 1, 2007
Dear Mr. Chapman:
I received your call while on the road promoting a March I am leading on the United States Justice Department on November 16th in Washington, DC, along with Martin Luther King, III, and other leaders in the community against hate crimes and racial attacks around the country. The revelation of your conversation came at a time that is most frightening to a lot of people because we are in a state of crisis with the proliferation of racial attacks, hate crimes, and bias incidents in the United States and abroad. In fact, Abraham H. Foxman, the Executive Director of the Anti-Defamation League and I released an unprecedented joint statement today because of this climate. Even more concerning to me though is that the Justice Department and the federal government have failed to intervene in cases all over the country of racial bigotry and hate which is the reason we are having our march on Nov. 16th in front of the Justice Department.
As a Minister I would be inclined to meet with you despite the racist and grotesque things I heard you say, but I am not willing to rearrange my schedule around the country building up for this march to do so. If you wish to meet with me somewhere on the road that is fine, but be assured that I will not sanitize the kind of hate language that leads to the hate action that has left so many people vulnerable in America today. The company that airs the show has the right to take steps by any means when there is a public display of a character of bigotry. We did not call on your company’s action but we will not call against your company’s action, because what was said in private is now public, and they have a right to deal with their public perception.
If you are sincere that this does not reflect you, you should not only meet with us, but you should march with us on November 16th and call on the government of the United States to protect people, that unlike you don’t have publicist, don’t have lawyers, and don’t have any protection. They used to have the protection of the United States government.
In Progress,
Reverend Al Sharpton
President of National Action Network

Whose Child Was This???

Composite sketches released of girl stuffed in box
(edited by Ivent)
source

The sketches, released Friday, show a girl with long blond hair, in a pink shirt and a matching skirt -- clothes she was reportedly wearing when she was found.
A forensic dentist has narrowed her age to between 2 and 3, the Galveston County Sheriff's office said.

Earlier, a self-described "cynical old cop" gently held a tiny shoe decorated with purple flowers as he begged for help in identifying the dead child Galveston police have dubbed "Baby Grace."
"She is more to us than just a case number, more to us than just an unidentified body. She is very much a human being," said Maj. Ray Tuttoilmondo of the Galveston County Sheriff's Office.

"She is someone's child, someone's grandchild, someone's cousin, someone's best friend, and to us, that is the most important part about this case," Tuttoilmondo said.
"We have adopted the name of Baby Grace because, there again, that is part of the emotional part of this case for us," he said, holding the sneaker identical to one of those the child was wearing when she was found Monday.

A fisherman became very upset after discovering the girl's body, in a large blue Sterilite plastic container, on an uninhabited island in Galveston's West Bay, Tuttoilmondo said.
Contact Sheriff's OfficeTo offer tips, contact the Galveston County Sheriff's Office at 409-766-2222 or 866-248-8477.

A fishing tournament with hundreds of contestants was held over the weekend in the area where the girl's body was found. Police said they hope to track down contestants who may have seen something. Some of them may have fished near the site of the discovery.

"If we can get to every single person, that's exactly what we're going to do," Tuttoilmondo said.
The Galveston County medical examiner has said the child suffered skull fractures, but that he found no other broken bones.

"Anything relating to chronic abuse, old injuries, things like that, those are parts of the investigation that we still need to look at," Tuttoilmondo said.
The Houston Chronicle reported that the medical examiner said the girl had been dead for at least two weeks when her body was found.
"I don't often make an appeal of emotion, choosing to stick with the facts of the case as we should," Tuttoilmondo wrote in an e-mail to local reporters.
"However, a case such as this draws out emotions in all that touch it, even us cynical old cops. I ask that you buck the system and include the emotions you, like me, are experiencing in looking at this case, as a parent, a child, one who has children as part of your life or just as a human being."
Police have received hundreds of calls about the case, he said. "A number of them we followed up on have led us to go check on other children. Fortunately, we found all of them safe and sound, but nothing that's absolutely made a home run hit yet."
Other callers have wanted to know how they can help. Some have offered to donate graveyard plots for the child and have volunteered to help sift through information.
"The community where we are is a very close-knit, solid community, and they're all more than willing to help," Tuttoilmondo said.

A&E Pulls 'Dog' Series From Schedule
source

HONOLULU — Television bounty hunter Duane "Dog" Chapman's show has been pulled from the air indefinitely by A&E, two days after a private phone conversation in which the reality star used a racial slur repeatedly was posted online.

"In evaluating the circumstances of the last few days, A&E has decided to take `Dog The Bounty Hunter' off the network's schedule for the foreseeable future," the network said in a statement Friday. "We hope that Mr. Chapman continues the healing process that he has begun."

A&E officials said the series, one of the network's top-rated programs, has not been canceled.
Chapman, 54, has been under fire and accused of being a racist ever since the private conversation with his son, Tucker Chapman, was posted online Wednesday by The National Enquirer.
Chapman used the N-word repeatedly about his son's black girlfriend.
At least two advertisers have pulled out from the show and civil rights groups have called for its cancellation.
Soon after the clip was posted, Chapman issued an apology and A&E suspended production of the series.

In the conversation, Chapman urges Tucker to break up with his girlfriend. He also expresses concern about the girlfriend trying to tape and go public about the TV star's use of the N-word. He used the slur six times in the first 45 seconds of the five-minute clip.
Chapman has said he was "disappointed in his choice of a friend, not due to her race, but her character. However, I should have never used that term." He also said he was ashamed of himself and pledged to make amends.

His attorney, Brook Hart said his client is not a racist and vowed never to use the word again. Hart said Tucker Chapman taped the call and sold it to the Enquirer for "a lot of money."
David Perel, the Enquirer's editor in chief, would not comment on how it obtained the tape.
Civil rights leaders said they were not satisfied with the removal of the show from A&E's schedule. A coalition of groups in Los Angeles sent a letter to network executives Friday demanding a cancellation.

The coalition said the comments were more than racially demeaning and hurtful to black women. "They are a vicious attack on and call to end interracial relations, as well as an incitement to violence," the letter said.

Earl Ofari Hutchinson, president of Los Angeles Urban Policy Roundtable, said the coalition believes Chapman's language was much more damaging than shock jock Don Imus' comments.
Imus was fired by CBS in April over his "nappy-headed hos" remark about the Rutgers University women's basketball team. Citadel Broadcasting Corp. Thursday announced Imus' return to radio in December.
If they can essentially say, 'We're firing Imus in the front door and bring him in the back door later on,' they can also do the same with this guy and his show," Hutchinson said. "It seems like to me A&E is keeping their options open."

The TV series follows Chapman and his tattooed crew as they track down bail jumpers in Hawaii and other states. The show also stars some members of Chapman's family, but Tucker Chapman is not regularly featured.

The Honolulu-based bounty hunter first grabbed headlines for apprehending serial rapist and Max Factor heir Andrew Luster in Mexico in 2003.

I applaud A&E for making that decision.

Doug Chapman knew what would happen...he knew the show could be yanked, and yet he continued to spew forth hate.

Interesting. He said he was referring to the character not her race...hmmm,

that's not true because he said (on the phone call), if Lyssa (his daughter) brought home a n*gg*er, they 'd all be pissed. No mention of possible conflicts the family and Lyssa's hypothetical n*gg*r boyfriend could POSSIBLY experience that may cause the family to be pissed. He didn't address character flaws etc. So going back to Dog's justifying the phone call with his son Tucker as referring to Tucker girlfriend's character-not her race...what kind of character would Lyssa's hypothetical boyfriend have?????

NONE.

He's a hypothetical n*gg*er boyfriend!

His flaw would be arriving to dinner BLACK, not wearing black, just being black.

I can hear him (Dog) explaining this to his (my pastor is black) pastor Tim Storey.

"Yes, Pastor I said it...but I wasn't talking about you. You don't count!"

Whatev.
If you're prejudice(read ignorant), just keep it real.

Don't be on TV spouting the name of Jesus, praying with criminals and then use ephithet.
I can only imagine with the camera people were thinking.

Great Information on credit card debt!

Get Out of Debt and Get Rich
With the right attitude and a little credit know-how, anyone can climb out of the hole and stay debt-free for life.
source

"My name is John, and I'm a recovered compulsive debtor." John and thousands like him meet across America -- in church basements and high school auditoriums -- every week. They talk about blowing the mortgage payment on gourmet restaurant meals, then scrounging to find enough coins for the tollbooth. They know that sick dread while opening the mailbox, wondering which bill is now due. They've seen how debt can destroy marriages and even lead to suicide.

They're members of Debtors Anonymous, a 12-step program modeled on Alcoholics Anonymous. They are clerks and executives, artists and electricians. Some have trust funds, others make minimum wage. Some overcharged on credit cards, others bought "fully-loaded" cars with seven-year loans, still others moved into lavish homes with interest-only mortgages. What they have in common is an overwhelming temptation to spend more than they earn. If you think that makes them different from the rest of us, consider this:

Americans bought over $2 trillion worth of stuff on credit last year.

Current outstanding debt on credit cards -- that's the "revolving" part that we don't pay off every month -- totals nearly $700 billion, up from just $50 billion in 1980.
Three of five American families can't pay off their credit cards each month. Their running balance averages about $12,000, which is one-fourth of the median household income.
By the mid-1990s, credit card debt held by Americans living below the poverty level more than doubled.

Senior citizens, once noted for their frugality, are sinking deeper into debt: Their average credit card balance increased by 89 percent between 1992 and 2001.

Total consumer debt in the United States comes to over $7,100 per person -- and that doesn't include mortgages.Grim as that sounds, there's help to be had. With the right attitude and a little credit know-how, anyone can climb out of the hole and stay debt-free for life. Just ask Wayne and Rebecca Denton of Clayton, North Carolina. In the 1990s, while Rebecca was in nursing school, Wayne, a lawn-care technician, began putting all their purchases on eight credit cards. By 1998 they were $88,000 in debt -- more than their combined annual income of $61,000. At first Wayne tried to hide the debt from Rebecca. But it got so bad that he couldn't even make the late-payment penalties, much less pay the bills. Eventually the phone was shut off, and Wayne had to borrow money from relatives just to buy food. The couple hit bottom when Rebecca considered filing separation papers. "But the lawyer told me that we'd be fighting over assumption of debt," she recalls. "I was shocked. In most divorces, people fight over assets. We had no assets." Rebecca says she "cried to God to save my marriage." The turning point came when she bought a $12.95 workbook by radio host and debt-reduction guru Dave Ramsey. The couple cut up their credit cards, and started working overtime to pay the bills. "Instead of getting mad at each other, we got mad at the debt," says Rebecca. Seven years later, with one son and another on the way, the Dentons are debt-free, living in a larger house and building up their savings. "It's been a radical change in our thought process," says Rebecca, "but I wouldn't trade it for anything." They keep one credit card for buying gas, which they pay off every month. And they read the fine print. "The credit card companies are really trying to put one past you," says Rebecca. It wasn't always that way.

Back in the 1950s, banks introduced credit cards to promote customer loyalty, especially the kind of customer who would pay the bill in full each month. The business grew steadily but remained fairly genteel until the 1980s, when a series of state and federal deregulations made it possible for banks to charge more interest and operate nationally. Nationwide marketing opened the floodgates. In 2003, banks mailed out 5.2 billion offers for credit cards. Today more than 75 percent of American families have at least one credit card, which makes it possible to rent cars, shop on the Internet, and buy plane tickets. "You need a credit card," says Terry Savage, the syndicated Chicago Sun-Times financial columnist.

What you don't need, she adds, is the long-term debt. Banks make more interest when people pay over time; that's why minimum payments on credit cards have shrunk to as low as one percent of the total balance. With payments that small, it sounds so easy. But wait: The average college student owes almost $2,800 on plastic, and that doesn't include student loans. If she pays $50 a month, assuming an 18 percent interest rate, it will take her more than ten years to pay off the credit card -- at a total cost of $6,154.

Financial experts agree that personal responsibility could prevent most debt problems; don't spend it, and you won't have to pay it back. But they still put some of the blame on banks, which lure new customers with low rates, then jack up the interest if they're late on just one payment. Many consumers are unaware that banks can raise your rate if you're late paying a completely unrelated bill, such as your mortgage. (It's in the fine print.)

Banks argue that late payments indicate credit risk, justifying higher rates. But in recent years banks have redefined what's risky -- often raising rates and charging penalties if a payment is late by even a few minutes. According to Robert Manning, a noted industry expert, late fees rose from $1.7 billion in 1996 to $7.7 billion in 2003. Officials at the American Bankers Association, the trade group representing the credit card industry, say this: "Lenders use penalty fees as a risk-management tool against customers who mishandle their finances."

Dave Ramsey has seen it all: "When you hear about a 78-year-old widow living on $800 a month in Social Security, and the credit card company lets her rack up $70,000 in debt, there's a lot of corporate immorality there." How much debt is okay? Savage recommends that your mortgage payment plus property tax and home insurance total no more than 40 percent of your take-home pay; Ramsey says no more than 25 percent. If you haven't already consolidated your student loans, do so before June 30: "Consolidation rates are the lowest ever," she says, "and if you agree to have the payment automatically withdrawn from your checking account, they'll usually knock another quarter point off the rate."

Car loans -- up to four or five years at a low interest rate -- are also acceptable. "If you need a seven-year car loan, you're buying too much car," says Savage. Total debt, though, should never be more than half your take-home pay -- and that's assuming you're putting the maximum into a 401(k) before taxes.

As for credit card debt, most experts agree that any is too much. "If you can only make the minimum payment on your credit cards," says Savage, "that's when you know that debt has become your lifestyle." Struggling to keep up with those payments, nearly 9 million Americans seek debt counseling every year.

Sadly, many will wind up deeper in debt -- victims of overpriced schemes that promise to "Pay Down Your Debt!" According to a 2003 study by the National Consumer Law Center and the Consumer Federation of America, many debt counselors are little more than telephone solicitors, raking in high-pressure "donations" from debtors -- as much as $50 a month plus a sign-up fee that can total a month's worth of debt -- in return for making payments and negotiating lower late fees and interest rates with banks.

But consumers can often get just as good a deal by calling creditors themselves. Furthermore, the plans almost never address secured debt like mortgages and car payments. That means a serious debtor could still lose his home or car, even if the credit card bills are paid -- not much of a deal. Five years ago, Dolores and Aldo Porziella of Hyde Park, Massachusetts, were in debt "up to our eyeballs" -- owing $10,000 on credit cards while getting by on Aldo's modest income as a hairdresser. The Porziellas signed on for a debt-management plan with Florida-based Consolidated Credit Counseling Services. For a fee of about $30 a month, Consolidated offered to negotiate lower interest rates on three Porziella credit accounts. But Dolores was looking for even lower rates, and after just one payment, decided to take her business elsewhere. "They may say they're nonprofit," says Dolores, "but I don't think they're in business to help you out." Technically speaking, Consolidated is not "in business" at all; it's a tax-exempt charity. In 2003 the organization reported revenues of nearly $23 million. Some of that revenue was paid to for-profit companies with ties to officers of Consolidated, for bill processing and other operations. Consolidated spokeswoman April Lewis-Parks notes that the company pays under fair-market value for such work. Lewis-Parks also says that the Porziellas dropped out of the program too soon to see results, and withheld information about some of their creditors. "We have over 50,000 clients, and we strive to provide each person with exemplary service." For just $9 a month, the Porziellas switched to Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Southern New England, part of a counseling network endorsed by Terry Savage and other experts. CCCS got the couple's Visa card rate lowered from 20 percent to 6 percent. In December the couple made their last payment on that card. Living debt-free is about more than getting creditors off your back. Knowing you have the financial leeway to weather hardships brings priceless peace of mind to Gary and Sue Cowan. When Tropical Storm Allison hit Houston in June 2001, the Cowans' home was flooded. "We had to leave our house by boat," recalls Sue, who was five months pregnant with her third child. But with their credit cards maxed out at $50,000 and no savings, they couldn't afford the repairs that insurance didn't cover. Six months later, Gary was laid off from his $60,000 technology job. "We were devastated," says Sue. The couple declared bankruptcy. Soon, though, fresh credit card offers began arriving in the mail. "Bankruptcy doesn't mean anything to them," says Sue. "They just jack up the interest rates." With Gary scraping by on a series of short-term jobs and Sue working at a grocery store, the Cowans quickly rang up $30,000 in new debt. Sue admits she was a shopaholic: "I wouldn't buy my kids' clothes at Target," she recalls. "I shopped at Dillard's" -- an upscale department store. The Cowans finally changed their habits, selling off the house to pay debts and committing to living within their means. "There's a mentality in this country that if you can afford the payment, you can afford the thing," says Sue. "Now our attitude is if we don't have the cash, we don't buy it." It's a way of life they're trying to pass on to their kids. "Our 11-year-old has $1,000 in savings, and she even made a donation to an orphanage," says Sue with pride.

Leading by example could be the best hope for a debt-free future. "Right now we're teaching our kids how to be great consumers," says Dallas Salisbury, chairman of the American Savings Education Council. "Spending is like binge drinking, and the comedown can be very harsh. Moving away from the consumption message will take a personality transplant for the nation."

Carlos Santana, wife getting divorced

source

Deborah Santana, who in her 2005 memoir, "Space Between the Stars," described her husband as being unfaithful, moved to dissolve their marriage on Oct. 19, citing irreconcilable differences.

Carlos Santana's publicist, Michael Jensen, said the case is "a private matter and there is no comment."

The musician has said he knew he made mistakes in his marriage.
"I sincerely apologized to her and to my kids when I wasn't in my right mind and did something hurtful. It has helped me become more humble and to try harder to be the man she wants me to be," Carlos Santana said after the memoir was published.

The Santanas have been business partners as well as spouses. Together, they created the Milagro Foundation, a nonprofit organization that supports underprivileged children.

Earlier this year, they announced plans to create three Mexican restaurants in the San Francisco Bay area named Maria, Maria after one of Carlos Santana's Grammy-winning singles.
The couple have three children , ages 17, 22 and 23.

Wow.
You'd think after 30+years of marriage, it would be "til death do you part."
However, you never know what goes on behind closed doors.
I'm sorry to hear about this, but I pray that God's healing power and the power of forgiveness manifests itself greatly at this time.

His Son Taped the Recording

Family Discord?

Looks like blood isn't thicker than mud after all. According to media, Doug "Dog the Bounty Hunter" Chapman's own son Tucker, recorded the hateful tirade, addressing Tucker's girlfriend as among other things @*$% n*gg*r. Brook Hart, Chapman's lawyer says his client is, "... not a racist and vowed never to use the word again." Hmmmm, well I guess his natural affinity for the N-word, is a result of Tourette's Syndrome. Some Christian pastors embrace Scientology
source

TAMPA, Florida (CNN) -- Some Christian congregations, particularly in lower income, urban areas, are turning to an unlikely source for help -- the Church of Scientology.

Rev, Charles Kennedy uses Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard's book during a Friday night sermon.

Scientologists do not worship God, much less Jesus Christ. The church has seen plenty of controversy and critics consider it a cult. So why are observant Christians embracing some of its teachings?

Two pastors who spoke recently with CNN explained that when it comes to religion, they still preach the core beliefs of Christianity. But when it comes to practicing what they preach in a modern world, borrowing from Scientology helps.

The Rev. Charles Kennedy, of the Glorious Church of God in Christ, a Pentecostal church in Tampa, Florida, and the Rev. James McLaughlin, of the Wayman Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Houston, Texas, are among the theological hybrids.

They say they are not scared off by programs with ties to a church that critics say has aggressive recruiting, secretive ways and rigid theology. As men of God rooted in Christian values, they do not see Scientology as a threat to their faith, but rather as a tool to augment it.

Scientology was founded in the 1950s by L. Ron Hubbard, a science fiction writer. Followers are taught that they are immortal spiritual beings called thetans. Although the church says there is a supreme being, its practices do not include worshipping God.

"I'm looking for solutions, and the people that I help, they don't ask me who L. Ron Hubbard is," said McLaughlin, who works with addicts. "You know what they say? 'Thank God.' "

Critic Rick Ross, a court-certified Scientology expert, sees something more sinister at work. He warned that mainstream acceptance makes it easier for the Scientologists to achieve their ultimate goal -- new recruits.

"Their hope is that through these programs, people will become more interested in L. Ron Hubbard, what else Mr. Hubbard had to offer, and this will lead them eventually to Scientology," Ross said.

The church has long been in the headlines for practices critics say are little more than cult-like mind control. It is also known for its stable of devout celebrity followers.
And according to published reports, Scientology has been recently diversifying its outreach to include other religions and ethnic groups.

Kennedy, McLaughlin and a handful of other Christian church leaders -- no one can say how many -- are finding answers to their communities' needs in Scientology's social programs.
For Kennedy, it began two years ago when he attended a meeting at the Church of Scientology's spiritual headquarters in Clearwater, Florida. He was introduced to a book called "The Way to Happiness" -- Hubbard's 64-page, self-described "common sense guide to better living."
In the book, which lays out ways to maintain a temperate lifestyle, Kennedy found a message he believed could help lift his predominantly lower income African-American congregation. He said the book's 21 principles help them with their struggle in an urban environment where there is too much crime and addiction and too little opportunity.

Kennedy knew that before he could introduce any Scientology-related text to his congregation, he would have to prove that it did not contradict his Christian beliefs. And so, he found Scripture to match each of the 21 principles.

Now Kennedy uses "The Way to Happiness" as a how-to supplement to his sermons. He believes it is easier to understand and clearer to follow than ancient Scriptures taken from the Bible.

When asked whether Scientology's values contradict the religion of Jesus Christ, Kennedy replies, "Sometimes yes. Sometimes no." But he says his congregation can relate to "The Way to Happiness."

Kennedy admits other pastors have criticized him, but the disapproval is not enough to discourage him. He insists that he has witnessed the changes "The Way to Happiness" has inspired in people. He also maintains that the Scientologists, many of whom he calls friends, are successful at outreach and getting desired results.

At Kennedy's C. L. Kennedy Center, free tutoring based on Hubbard's "study tech" philosophies is provided to dozens of children and some adults. Kennedy's daughter, Jimirra, is one of the instructors. She said "study tech" and the Scientology orientation classes she attended helped her graduate from high school and become a poised woman.

Though Jimirra Kennedy insists she does not ascribe to the religious side of Scientology, she still considers herself, at least in part, Scientologist. "We say this all the time and I know my father says this, but I am like a Pentecostal Scientologist, that's what we are."
Critics like Ross are alarmed by such a blurring of the lines. They consider it a marketing win for Scientology.

In Houston, McLaughlin says he is not one to argue with success. Driven by a need to address the rampant drug problem in his community, McLaughlin spent years searching for a solution before he discovered "Narconon," Scientology's nonprofit drug rehab center, in 2001.
McLaughlin trained at Narconon and brought the techniques back to his community to launch

"First Step Faith Step," a program that combines Hubbard's methods with the teachings of Christianity.
He claims a 70- to 80-percent rehabilitation success rate.

Kennedy and McLaughlin said they have never lost a member of their congregations to Scientology.
"I think that they truly believe that this may help their communities, but in my opinion, they're naïve," Ross said. Scientologists, he added, "have their own agenda."
The Church of Scientology would not grant CNN an interview, nor would its representatives answer questions about the Hubbard-based programs.

Westboro Baptist Church?

Church ordered to pay $10.9 million for funeral protest
source
(emphasis by Ivent)

(CNN) -- A federal jury in Baltimore, Maryland, Wednesday awarded $10.9 million to a father of a Marine whose funeral was picketed by members of a fundamentalist church carrying signs blaming soldiers' deaths on America's tolerance of homosexuals.

A member of Westboro Baptist Church protests outside a veteran's hospital in Maywood, Illinois, in April 2006.

The family of Lance Cpl. Matthew Snyder -- who was killed in a vehicle accident in Iraq's Anbar province in 2006 -- sued the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas, and its leaders for defamation, invasion of privacy and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

Church members showed up at Snyder's funeral chanting derogatory slogans and holding picket signs with messages including "God Hates Fags."

They've picketed the funerals of dozens of troops killed in Iraq and Afghanistan, claiming that God is punishing the United States because of its tolerance for homosexuality.

Al Snyder, father of the slain Marine, said he considered filing the lawsuit for a long time before going forward and that he hoped the judgment would make it harder for the church to continue such protests.

"It's hard enough burying a 20-year-old son, much less having to deal with something like this," he said, recalling that some of the other signs at the funeral included "Thank God for dead soldiers" and "Thank God for IEDs." Watch the fallen Marine's father describe his reaction »

"As far as their picketing goes, they want to do it in front of a courthouse, they want to do it in a public park, I could care less. But I couldn't let them get away with doing this to our military," Al Snyder said.

Snyder's attorney told jurors to pick an amount "that says don't do this in Maryland again. Do not bring your circus of hate to Maryland again," according to The Associated Press.

The award includes $2.9 million in compensatory damages and $8 million in punitive damages, a clerk in the judge's chambers said.

Lawyers for the church members argued Matthew Snyder's funeral was public and the First Amendment protects all points of view, even offensive ones, the AP reported.

Church founder Fred Phelps said the church would appeal the decision, adding it would "take about five minutes to reverse that thing." Watch Phelps laugh at the people trying to silence him.

"This will elevate me to something important," Phelps told reporters. "This was an act of futility."

Later, Phelps said the case was about "putting a preacher on trial for what he preaches."

"All it was, was a protestation by the government of the United States against the word of God. They don't want me preaching that God is punishing the country by killing their servicemen." Watch Phelps say freedom of speech is under fire »

The church had made a new sign to carry after the jury's decision, said his daughter, Margie Phelps.

"Our message is 'Thank God for 10.9 [million dollars],' " she said.

"By that mechanism [the award], the entire world will look over and see that America is doomed and that in doomed America there is no such thing as religious liberty."

The judgment would not change the message the group was carrying, said another of Phelps' daughters, church attorney Shirley Phelps-Roper.

"It's going nowhere," she said of the jury's decision. "This is a nothing. God is not going to stop killing your soldiers. He's not going to stop pouring his wrath out on this nation. America is doomed."

Church members were persecuted for their teachings and the court "mocked and scoffed at our religious beliefs," she said.

Phelps-Roper added that protests were planned later this week in Boston and Acton, Massachusetts, and in Norton, Kansas.

The group plans to protest a Veterans Day rally in Washington, she said.

Phelps and the Westboro Baptist Church -- which has no connections with any mainstream Baptist organizations -- are longtime anti-gay protesters.

Before launching their protests at the funerals of American troops killed in Iraq and Afghanistan, they routinely picketed the funerals of gay people and those who died of AIDS.

Phelps and his followers also picketed the February 2006 funeral of Coretta Scott King, widow of slain civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., because of her support for gay rights.

Several states have implemented laws about funeral protests and Congress has passed a law barring protests at federal cemeteries.

This has to be one of the most RIDICULOUS things I've ever heard of.

To picket a funeral, is ridiculous and disrespectful.

For a CHURCH TO PICKET A FUNERAL IS HELLACIOUSLY QUEER (PUN INTENDED)!

Why is God KILLING SOLDIER for homosexual acts in the U.S., and not other countries? What about sexual immorality that is HAPPENING IN THE CHURCH and in the United States by STRAIGHT PEOPLE?! God is no respecter of person...he'll bring judgment upon the rebellious. What is God saying to Westboro about that??

While God hates the homosexual act, God doesn't want to see ANYONE perish

so why aren't they ministering instead?

As someone who lived a gay lifestyle for 10 years (yes, me), it was by God's loving kindness that I was drawn. Wanting to please Him, meant I would DO ANYTHING for Him-thus giving up the lifestyle. Was it hard to do? Yes.

Do I regret it--not one bit.

But can you imagine my reaction-if I met up with these fanatical people??

I would've been so turned off by the church--I'd probably be looking like a dude now just out of total rebellion!

This is not the correct approach.

God would not cosign hate.

He is a God of love.

Now the god who is getting glory out of their proposterous acts is satan.

this whole church is retarded.

And this is why many people are turned off by the church.

God is love, and so should we be.

Well, Tell Us How You Really Feel, Dog!!

Dog Chapman's Hate-Filled Tirade

(editing/emphasis by Ivent)

The National Enquirer (yes THE Nat'l Enquirer!) has obtained an explosive and shocking racist rant spewed by Duane Dog Chapman.

WARNING: THIS AUDIO CONTAINS STRONG AND OFFENSIVE LANGUAGE

The Enquirer says they have two tapes of the Dog hurling insults at his son, Tucker, during an undated telephone conversation. It appears as if the Dog is concerned that Tucker's girlfriend, Monique Shinnery, who is black, will set him up because of the language the Dog uses.

In the nearly eight minute long tape posted on the Enquirer's website, Dog says the N word numerous times and demands that Tucker break up with Monique or he'll be fired from the family bail bond business.

Reps for the Dog and A&E were not immediately available for comment.

Well, the provided proof (phone conversation) only served as confirmation.

It was alleged this year, that he (Doug) ALWAYS uses that ephithet, except when on camera.

I like how he said (paraphrasing) if his daughter brought home a ni**er, they would all be upset... But not in a n***er scum of the earth kind of way.

What the fo-sheezy??

You know what...I can respect a racist that's flat out, bold with their prejudice.

But these kind...love you in your face, dog you behind your back...that's a whole other kind of crazy.

It is what it is.
I'm not wasting energy getting mad--I mean these racist idiots are coming out of the woodwork, like roaches!

I just won't watch his show any longer.

'Dog' Chapman sorry for using N-word

source
HONOLULU - TV bounty hunter Duane "Dog" Chapman on Wednesday apologized for using the N-word repeatedly in a profanity-laced tirade during a private phone conversation with his son that was recorded and posted online.

Chapman, star of A&E's hit reality series "Dog the Bounty Hunter," responded after The National Enquirer posted a clip of the conversation in which Chapman uses the racial slur in reference to his son's black girlfriend.

TMZ.com reported A&E suspended production on the series, the cable network's highest rated show, pending an inquiry. A&E did not immediately return phone messages seeking comment.
The recording was first posted online by the Enquirer. It was unclear who recorded the conversation or how the tabloid obtained the 1 1/2-minute clip in which the N-word was used six times. A woman at the Enquirer said no one would be available to comment after hours.
In the conversation, Chapman urges his son to breakup with his girlfriend. He also expresses concern about the girlfriend going public about the TV star's use of the N-word.
"I'm not going to take a chance ever in life of losing everything I've worked for 30 years because some (expletive) n--- heard us say 'n---' and turned us into the Enquirer magazine."
In the clip, Chapman also stated he doesn't care that his son's girlfriend is black and it wasn't about race.

In a statement, the 54-year-old Chapman said he has "utmost respect and aloha for black people who have suffered so much due to racial discrimination and acts of hatred.
"I did not mean to add yet another slap in the face to an entire race of people who have brought so many gifts to this world," he said. "I am ashamed of myself and I pledge to do whatever I can to repair this damage I have caused."

Chapman said, "My sincerest, heartfelt apologies go out to every person I have offended for my regrettable use of very inappropriate language. I am deeply disappointed in myself for speaking out of anger to my son and using such a hateful term in a private phone conversation."
Chapman said the clip was completely taken out of context.

I was disappointed in his choice of a friend, not due to her race, but her character," he said. "However, I should have never used that term."
Chapman said he is meeting with his spiritual adviser, Rev. Tim Storey, who is black, and hope to meet with other black leaders, "so they can see who I really am and teach me the right thing to do to make things right, again."

"I know that all of my fans are deeply disappointed in me, as well, as I have tried to be a model for doing the right thing," he said. "I did not do the right thing this time, and hope you will forgive me."

The Honolulu-based bounty hunter first grabbed headlines for apprehending serial rapist and Max Factor heir Andrew Luster in Mexico in 2003.

I Will Cut You Over My Pickles! (no seriously, I would :P )

IN A PICKLE: Man Jailed, Used Pickle as Weapon
source

NILES, Mich. (AP) - Calling it silly yet serious, a judge sentenced a 35-year-old man to time served in jail and probation in a case that police say involved an assault with - and over - pickles.

Bobby Lee Bolen, who lives in the southwestern Michigan community of Buchanan, was sentenced Monday to 54 days in jail with credit for 54 days served and one year of probation as well as restitution for third-offense home invasion.

According to police reports, Bolen broke into Jody Lee's home in Buchanan Aug. 20, got into an argument and threw two large pickles at friends Lee and J.W. Romanski III.

Two counts involving Bolen's assaults were dismissed as was a charge of cutting or interfering with phone lines.

"If this is not the silliest case I've ever seen in this courtroom, it certainly is in the top 10," Berrien Trial Court Judge Scott Schofield said Monday. "The fact that it's silly doesn't mean that it's not serious."

Assistant Prosecutor Kelly Travis called the situation "completely needless."

"Mr. Bolen is in need of anger management, so maybe he can get to the bottom of why he would commit a felony over pickles," Travis told the South Bend (Ind.) Tribune.

Defense attorney Robert Lutz said alcohol appeared to be at the root of Bolen's problem.

Why did I post this?

Besides saying, "I Can,"
I'm also going to "share."
Anyone who knows me will attest to this:
I.....LOVE.....PICKLES.
So the thought of someone throwing pickles-instead of giving them to me (perhaps) really gets my goat!
If I get a hamburger/sandwich I ALWAYS ask for heavy pickles. Before I leave I check the burger/sandwich.
People let me tell you something:
"extra" and "heavy" are not synonomous.
If I get an EXTRA pickle when I asked for heavy pickles, the following takes place: First i give a look. then I take a deep breath. Then I check the receipt to make sure I made my desire known correctly (of course I did), then I send it back. *I'll say extra prayers at this time cuz I know some foodworkers are scandalous, when it comes to sending food back*

Done correctly, there'll be at least a 2 layer stack and I will not be able to see the meat on the sandwich because it's covered with pickles. This insures I get pickles in every bite.
Ok, I've opened up enough.
til next time,

He is God
No longer striving to make a name for myself
for I now walk in the name of "Jesus,"
I recount the days of not long ago,
as a babe in Christ new to this faith walk,
fearful when I didn't hear from you or speak to you.
Alone without you or so I thought.
Feeling abandoned yet again, I wanted to leave you, but was unable.
Foolishly believing you were like the rest, I wanted to shut down, and hide.
But with faith the size of a seed , yes mustard I mustered up strength.
"PLEASE DON'T WALK AWAY" Lord, I cried!
Not realizing the magnitude of the faithful God I now worshiped.
"Because of who you are" you picked me up, and loved me.
you wiped away tears, brushed away stray strands that lay plastered to my face.
Realizing you my Lord, would never leave me, never forsake me, it is an inconceivable thought.
How is it possible to mess up, foul up, drop the ball, miss it by this much, come so close, oops no cigar,
better luck next time, this was not my season, everything happens for a reason, what is wrong with me, there's a time and a place for everything, and yet You still love me?

When I said I would never serve Him again, because his children hurt me.
He loved me the same.

When I vowed to never utter another prayer.
He loved me the same.

Through thin pages of power you speak the Word.
You said, I can do all things, i can ask for wisdom, i have a sound mind,
To build on a solid foundation, and to all people be kind.
I sing when I'm happy, blue, confused, misused, and abused, because regardless of circumstance
you've promised to see me through.
*****
I tell all what you've done for me, but also what you'll do for them.
I say he'll make the darkness light again
Can you believe that my friend?
I've purposed in my heart to be grateful in all things.
Because, I have eternal gratitude for Christ Jesus who allowed this captive's freedom to ring.
I sing because I can.
Not for attention or a record deal.
I sing because I'm a walking miracle.
Because my life the enemy wanted to destroy kill & steal.
I know for myself, not based on what I heard or read,
That my Almighty God is great, as I'm made mindful every time I rise out of bed.
As you healed me from my past, my hurts, and pain-You infused me with love, and I began to live again.
Your love poured out of me, just as rivers flow do.
I look in the mirror and a smile shines through.
Because my Father saved me, the devil's defeated, and I your baby girl whom you knew before creation..
have been made anew.
You..And...You Alone...Are God, and for that reason alone, I'll always be eternally grateful. Amen.

Mother Assaults Students At School (Detroit, MI)

Noble Middle School was locked down on Tuesday and a student’s mother was taken into custody after a fight escalated.

Two girls got into a fight in the lunchroom at Noble Middle School on Fullerton Road.

One of the girls called her mother for help, police said. The mother arrived with two men.

School officials said the adults walked through the front doors of the school. Police said the mother assaulted and confronted students.

“They came through the front door, they didn't come through the side, they walked in and started attacking kids and they injured my child. I'm on my way to the hospital now to take my child,” Linda Finley, a mother.

The woman was taken into custody and the lockdown was lifted.

YPSILANTI, Mich. -- A married couple were arrested within hours, each on suspicion of drunken driving.

First the husband, then his wife were arrested.

Police in a Michigan town said they stopped the man and gave him a preliminary breath test after watching him allegedly run a red light.

Police said the test registered above the legal .08 drunken driving limit.

He had his 12-year-old son in the car with him, and police told the boy to call his mother to pick him up.

After she arrived, with her 9-year-old daughter in the car, police said, the woman was tested and also found to be legally drunk.

Both children were turned over to a relative until the parents were determined to be sober.

Hmmm, sounds like a match made in hell.
Despite the shaky foundation these parents have given their children,
I'm hoping the siblings will be able to overcome their circumstances.
Being the "child" of an alcoholic, is not a walk in the park-I have first hand experience. I put quotations around the word "child" because when your parent is an addict, regardless of their drug of choice, you're no longer a child once you're aware of their dependency.
You become the parent, and they become the child.
I pray these children make it.

Britney Spears allowed monitored visits to sons three times a week

source
LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- A court commissioner granted Britney Spears three monitored visits a week with her two small sons while ordering the pop star to childproof her house and work out a schedule for the visits with her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, according to a ruling made Tuesday.
Federline, Spears

Britney Spears must work out a schedule for the visits with her ex-husband, Kevin Federline.

Superior Court Commissioner Scott Gordon also required that Spears undergo random weekly drug and alcohol tests.

Spears, 25, also must continue meeting with a court-appointed parenting coach, and the youngsters must be in car seats when they are being driven, the ruling states.

Calls to lawyers representing Spears and Federline weren't immediately returned.

The nine-page ruling said Spears could have overnight visits with her kids -- something she had been seeking. She will get two visits a week from noon to 7 p.m. and one from noon to 10 a.m. the next morning.

The order also cited some details of an Oct. 19 report submitted by parenting coach Lisa Hacker about her observations of Spears with her children.

The report makes it clear that Hacker feels Spears "loves her children and the children are bonded" to her, the ruling states.

However, Hacker was concerned that Spears didn't seem to have "child-centered" interactions, according to the ruling.

The "environment at the house ranged from chaotic to almost somber with little communication at all," Hacker reported, according to the ruling.

During all three of her visits, Spears "rarely engaged with the children in either conversation or play," Hacker said in her report.

Hacker also reported that Spears seemed to have a "lack of general attention at times" but added there was nothing she "would characterize as abusive in a traditional sense."

Hacker added that during an additional visit Oct. 23, Spears seemed "much more engaged with [Hacker] and the children," the ruling stated.

The ruling came after a three-hour hearing last Friday attended by Spears and Federline. Extensive testimony was presented on a number of issues.

Gordon previously said there was evidence that Spears is a "habitual, frequent and continuous" user of drugs and alcohol.

He had withdrawn approval for her to even visit the children after finding she had failed to comply with some conditions for shared custody.

He later withdrew the ban and allowed her to visit Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 1 -- but only in the presence of a court-approved monitor.

Spears had filed a request Friday to "terminate or modify" the order, according to court records.

Additional details about the request weren't disclosed.

Entertainer Robert Goulet dies at 73

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Robert Goulet, the handsome, big-voiced baritone whose Broadway debut in "Camelot" launched an award-winning stage and recording career, has died. He was 73.

Robert Goulet, seen here on March 31, had a rare form of pulmonary fibrosis.

The singer died Tuesday morning in a Los Angeles hospital while awaiting a lung transplant, said Goulet spokesman Norm Johnson.

He had been awaiting a lung transplant at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles after being found last month to have a rare form of pulmonary fibrosis.

Goulet had remained in good spirits even as he waited for the transplant, said Vera Goulet, his wife of 25 years. Video Watch one of Goulet's recent performances »

"Just watch my vocal cords," she said he told doctors before they inserted a breathing tube.

The Massachusetts-born Goulet, who spent much of his youth in Canada, gained stardom in 1960 with "Camelot," the Lerner and Loewe musical that starred Richard Burton as King Arthur and Julie Andrews as his Queen Guenevere.

Goulet played Sir Lancelot, the arrogant French knight who falls in love with Guenevere.

He became a hit with American TV viewers with appearances on "The Ed Sullivan Show" and other programs. Sullivan labeled him the "American baritone from Canada," where he had already been a popular star in the 1950s, hosting his own show called "General Electric's Showtime.

Briefing Costs FEMA Spokesman New Job
source
WASHINGTON (Oct. 29) -- The man who oversaw public affairs at the Federal Emergency Management Agency when it held a fake news conference last week will no longer be taking over as head of public relations for the director of national intelligence. Pat Philbin, FEMA's external affairs director, was scheduled to become director of public affairs for National Intelligence Director Mike McConnell on Monday. It was not immediately clear whether he offered his resignation or was fired just as he was set to begin the job.

As of Sunday, officials only said that they were aware of concerns. But Monday, the director of national intelligence office issued this statement: "We do not normally comment on personnel matters. However, we can confirm that Mr. Philbin is not, nor is he scheduled to be, the director of public affairs for the office of the director of national intelligence." FEMA Director David Paulison said Philbin sent him an e-mail in which he took full responsibility for last week's staging of the news conference. FEMA, part of the Department of Homeland Security, called a news conference Tuesday in Washington on the agency's handling of the California wildfires. The agency said no media representatives showed up because the conference was announced at the last minute. Instead, reporters called in on a phone line but couldn't ask questions The agency released a video of the conference with FEMA employees asking less than hard-hitting questions. Deputy Director Harvey Johnson, who was fielding questions, gave no indication at the time that staff members were asking the questions. He later apologized, calling the fake briefing an "error in judgment." "I am calling to apologize and say it will not happen again," Paulison said in a phone call to CNN. He said rules are changing to prevent any reoccurrence. Reporters will be given at least an hour's warning before a press conference and those calling in will be able to ask questions in the future, he said. Paulison said he is continuing to investigate. He said he understands that FEMA officials did not plan to ask questions and did so only when reporters failed to appear.

Disciplinary action is being taken against some FEMA employees, he said. Another official said that reprimands have been issued and more may be coming. Johnson "really didn't have an awareness" of what was taking place, according to Paulison. The FEMA director said Johnson wasn't familiar with everyone in the press office and did not recognize staffers asking questions. "He just feels sick about it," Paulison said. "He feels his credibility has been hurt." However, reporters noted that Johnson called on at least one person by name. FEMA generally received high marks for its response to the California wildfires after fierce criticism over its handling of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, but Paulison said he was sure the conference flap has had a bad effect on morale. "The last two years of planning for a major disaster fell in place," Paulison said. "Things were working as they were supposed to ... and that just killed everything you tried to have happen." The head of homeland security also has blasted the fake news briefing and said those behind it showed "extraordinarily poor judgment." "I think it was one of the dumbest and most inappropriate things I've ever seen since I've been in government," Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said Saturday. The White House said it was unaware of the briefing beforehand. "It is not a practice that we would employ here at the White House," said press secretary Dana Perino. "We certainly don't condone it."

And right on the eve of assuming a new position?
Hmmmmm, that sounds suspect.
Just a smidge.

having said that, I'm playing angel's advocate-
If he'd go to such lengths as putting on a fake news conference,
what kind of devilment has he done in order to assume his formerly new position as head of public relation, for the director of National Intelligence.
Ohhhhhh, if walls could talk. :)

Sellers offer house for the deal of their lifetime
Fed up with no offers, will refund entire purchase price upon their deaths

WEXFORD, Pa. - It could be the deal of a lifetime. A Pittsburgh-area couple, Bob and Ricki Husick, are offering anyone who buys their home full cash-back upon their death and even their full inheritance, currently worth at least $500,000.

The Husicks have been trying to sell their home for almost a year, but have failed to do so in the current shaky market.

Bob Husick said he's asking $399,900 for the four-bedroom, three and a half bath home about 20 miles north of Pittsburgh.

According to the Husicks' offer, the buyer would get the money back when the couple dies. And if the buyer agrees to care for them in old age, they could also inherit their retirement home in Arizona, bringing the estate's current value to about $500,000.

Times are truly tough.
I'm sure there'll be incentives of all types out of desperation to sell a home. Honestly,
It's so hard to believe that many people's dreams of owning a home has been realized as a nightmare.
People are selling their homes at 50%+ than their asking price, or some are struggling paying 2 mortgages.
I don't know what it will take to resolve these issues, but it can't come soon enough for some.
