We Went To The Museum Today...

I'm going to end this night on a post that's light.

Earlier today, my son Tone-who's 16, and I went to the Charles H. Wright Museum of Detroit. Was my son excited about going to the Museum? Of course not. He told me emphatically las night, he did not want to go-I told him he was. Well, I had to go the dr's this morning and he wanted to ride shotgun-no problem (hee hee). After the dr's we go to Starbuck's ( I LOVE STARBUCKS!) and I indulge him in a Venti double Chocolaty Chip Frappucino (unwitting bribe)and a lemon loaf (lemon pound cake), and I had my usual Venti Caramel Macchiatto w/soy and an old fashioned donut. Driving over the raggedy streets of Michigan Ave in Dearborn, MI proved to be a feat in and of itself, as that stretch of road is DESTROYED BY POTHOLES (big craters in the street).

Unwilling to let the possibility of tire damage prevent me from making this trip to the museum, I press on. My son-who trusts his mama so much- was content sipping on his Frappucino, unaware we're heading the opposite way of Hollywood Video. That is until we jump on I-94E...he looks around momentarily, but then decides to sit back and relax. I exit at John R St., turning right on John R St., turn left on Warren Ave, and then do a "Michigan Left" before my kid finally asks "where we going, ma?"-unable to hide my laughter I looked straight ahead and said "to the museum" as I pulled my car in front of the meter that sits directly in front of the museum.
You should have seen his face!
ROLFMBO -I'm still laughing at his facial expression! lol

Needless to say he was mad as H-E-DOUBLE HOCKEY STICKS, but once we went inside and viewed the 1st exhibit, his anger began to dissipate.

That exhibit touched him as well myself.

The exhibit is entitled:

And Still We Rise.

It begins in prehistoric Africa, and ends in present day America.
It was so engaging as we saw life-size models of Africans who were squeezed onto the slave ships. There were moaning and crying, with written narrations of the diseases and smells that were prevalent on the ship.
We also saw a slave trader branding a slave on the ship, and you can hear the whimpering of the slave who was being branded!

There were mechanical Frederick Douglass and Harriet Tubman-who spoke, and we learned of a teenaged female slave who ran away by the name of Harriet Jacobs, who documented her experiences in a book. She wrote of her predatory slave master who made repeated sexual advances and she was able to thwart them, before deciding to leave. Jacob's Bio
This brave young woman RAN AWAY...and wrote a book about it!
You know I had to buy the book, right??
The book is called Incidents in the Life of A Slave Girl.

Also, in the exhibit is an up close model of a lynching. *sigh*
That messed me up.

There's so much to tell, but if you're ever in Detroit-you MUST stop and visit the Charles H. Wright Museum.

All-in-all, I'm glad I went, and so is Tone. :)

Any Wagers on How This "Investigation" Will Turn Out???

UPDATE: Kym Worthy's Press Conference

NEW: Prosecutor Investigating Mayor, Beatty

The Wayne County prosecutor says she has opened an investigation following a newspaper report that Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and his top aide exchanged sexually explicit text-messages.

DETROIT (AP) - The Wayne County prosecutor says she has opened an investigation following a newspaper report that Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and his top aide exchanged sexually explicit text-messages.

The messages appear to contradict the pair's denials in court that they had romantic ties.

Prosecutor Kym Worthy didn't elaborate on the specifics of her investigation, but says she was unaware of the text messages until she read a report in the Detroit Free Press yesterday.

The text messages raise the question of whether the mayor and Chief of Staff Christine Beatty committed perjury during a whistle-blower trial last summer.

A conviction of lying under oath can bring up to 15 years' imprisonment.

A spokesman for Kilpatrick has said Kilpatrick and his family "plan to continue their private time for the next several days."

Beatty hasn't commented since the story ran.

Kym Worth statement...

"Yesterday there was an article that appeared in the Detroit Free Press about the mayor and his chief of staff. I found out about this article when you did, in the morning newspaper.

"There are people who mistakenly believe that this office has been conducting an investigation. That could not be further from the truth and we have received no information whatsover from any police agency.

"News reports and articles are not investigations and they are not evidence. We cannot and will not make any potential charging decision based on that.

"However, here is the decision that I have made. The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office will conduct an independent investigation that will be fair, impartial, and thorough. We will not be rushed by anyone or anything.

"We will only be influenced by the evidence and the facts that develop -- and nothing, I mean nothing else. Thank you for coming."

Mayor Perjury Press Conf. Friday

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has scheduled a press conference for 10 a.m. Friday to discuss the possibility of perjury charges against Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick.

WXYZ.com will carry the press conference live. source

****
I was informed today, that Kym W and Kwame are real cool with each other.
Which leads to this question:
Will Kym Worthy allow her emotions to dictate her job, or will her job dictate what her job title includes??
I.e., will she handle her biz w/Kwame?
We'll see.
She better remember-her position is done by election, and Michiganders have lonnnnnnnng memories.

The Descension Upon MI has begun...

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (AP) -- John McCain, Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee are battling for the hearts -- and votes -- of Michigan today.

GOP Candidates...taking MI by storm
The Republican presidential contenders are trying to position themselves for Michigan's potentially make-or-break primary.

Economic issues were a focal point heading into Tuesday's vote because Michigan's unemployment rate is the highest in the country by a full percentage point. It also is about 50 percent higher than the national average.

Romney says during a stop in Traverse City it's "simply wrong for Washington to be aware of what's going on in Michigan without doing something about it."

McCain was speaking later at a town hall meeting in Warren, before stops in Livonia and Clawson. Huckabee started his day with a prayer breakfast in Grand Rapids, before attending a rally in the city.

**UPDATE** This Is Why I'm Seriously Considering Moving Back To L.A.!

this is what I walked up to-aye yi yi

broom standing upright in the snow-unassisted

Son, handling his biz (2nd pic)

Ok, after 2 back-to-back phone calls warning me about my car getting possibly stuck,
I decided to bite the cold bullet and take my butt outside and attempt to dig (at least partially) my behind out.
Reports have come in about people being killed in car

accidents & dying from heart attacks as a result of shoveling this heavy snow. SmileyCentral.com

(other pics : my feet, snowdrift next to my car, right rearview of my car- look down at the trench!)

Therefore, I did what any self respecting parent would do--I TOOK MY KID WITH ME...that way we can die together!! LOL

Seriously though, my son is 16- and while some parents think that means their child is an indentured slave, I believe in riding and dying together.
We broomed(don't have a shovel living in an apt-I knew I should've kept 1!) and footed (used our feet to sweep away snow) together.
I have a Ford and it's front wheel drive, wouldn't you know it...the ONE TIME I didn't back in to my parking spot-I get a small wall of snow behind my rear tires!
Well, we cleared the snow and I jumped in my car, and SLOWLY backed out, making sure i didnt get stuck atop any snow drifts.

I drove forward and reverse several times, until I was satisfied with the path my tires created.
I then pulled out and backed into my parking spot-for ez exit in the morning.
Tonight, the temp will get down to 19degrees, which means rock salt will be necessary to roll over the sheet of ice that's coming tonight which means disaster during tomorrow's rush hour traffic.

It was afterwards, that I was reminded by mama of course, that I had AAA roadside assistance!

Well, it didn't kill me so I guess in some way, it'll make my son Tony and I stronger.

@Cop-I have NY in my prayers...thanks for keeping me in yours!

This photo was taken outside of my apartment approximately, 1 hour ago.

It's still snowing.

File This Under: In My Own Back Yard

baby Nevaeh
Neveah's father, Richardson

This story has Michiganders upset!

'9-DAY old baby dies, possibly SEXUALLY ASSAULTED BEFORE DEATH'
source
Father beats up mother in car while holding bleeding baby, arrested

The baby, who was born three weeks' premature on Nov. 15, died Nov. 24 after she was rushed to the hospital with blood coming from her mouth and rectum.

Nobody has been charged with the crime, but the child's father, 21-year-old Christopher Ryan Richardson, was arraigned this afternoon on a domestic violence charge, a third offense, a felony punishable by up to two years in jail and a $2,500 fine.

Bond was set at $100,000.

Richardson allegedly grabbed the back of the head and slapped the face of Cynthia Gosicicki, Nevaeh's mother, and threatened her if something happened to the baby, Lincoln Park Police Chief Thomas Karnes said

"I'm not guilty," Richardson told 25th District Judge David J. Zelenak as he asked for a court-appointed attorney.

Richardson has two previous convictions for domestic violence charges. He also was on probation since Nov. 20 on a drug charge in Roscommon, according to his mother, Adie Green.

"I am so tired and really angry," said Green, 39, whose aunt raised Richardson since he was 3 1/2 years old.

Richardson's preliminary examination is Dec. 4. Police were continuing their probe of Neveah's death, which the medical examiner ruled a homicide. The child was living in Green's home with four other adults.

"This is a terrible crime," Karnes said. "It's the worst thing I have ever come in contact with and it's the worst thing I've ever heard of.

"Nevaeh" is Heaven spelled backwards, what a coincidence. *smh*
May she rest in peace, and thoughts and prayers go out to the families.

In My Own Backyard...

Teen Killers ages 18, 17(below) stabs, burns & beheads a man FOR THE THRILL
Victim-Daniel Sorenson (below)

In a nutshell, these monsters (above) killed Daniel Sorenson, because they needed self-gratification. He was stabbed, burned with a blowtorch, and removed Daniel's head with a HACKSAW. To add insult to injury, they killed him in Jean-Pierre's grandfather garage which was covered in tarp...sounds like the perfect premeditated crime to me. Oh yeah, gramps has alzheimer's disease. Jean-Pierre sounds like the perfect Hallmark Card grandson, I tell ya.

Show Your Hair Who's Boss!!

"T-Boss" of Styles by Thomas Inkster, MI

I'm not a fan of beauty shops. Not at all. I do not like sitting (anywhere) waiting, waiting.

However since I've taken up walking, flat ironing (thermal straightening) my hair everyday isn't conducive to healthy hair. Having realized I need professional help, I had to decide WHO would do my hair. I have a friend who does hair, but my schedule did not allow for me to go to East Detroit.

Literally driving up Inkster Rd this past Thursday (Nov 1st), I settled on a name-"Styles By Thomas."

I said the name out loud so I can remember it, and then sent Google (46653)from my cell, a text message asking for the phone number.

From the giddy up speaking to T-boss (Tara) was hilarious. I called to make an appointment, and I couldn't hear her over the background chatter, and she couldn't hear me.

I messed up her name (T-bug, T-bog, T-what?, T-who?) I finally asked her to spell the last part of the name (b-o-s-s; why must I make simple things difficult??)

she messed up my name,
and she couldn't understand my cousin's name (Sonya)at all, lol!

The fact that she laughed and wasn't distracted by her atmosphere, impressed me to no end. I knew I wanted T-boss to do my hair.

Saturday arrived and it was the usual Saturday day. Busy. I knew immediately who T-boss was. Nope, she didn't describe herself, and she didn't tell me where she would be located in the salon. So how did I know who she was??

Her apron was embroidered with "T-boss!" lol-it totally eliminated the need for guesswork.

Her niece, washed the dickens out of my hair, and if there was a man somewhere in there, she washed him out too! ("i'm gonna wash that man right outta my hair"..remember that song, i'm telling my age now! oooooook, maybe not).

After my blowdry, I watched as T-boss hooked up customer after customer.

I think the most amazing transformation I had seen by T, was on this woman with damaged hair, right? Well, T put a stocking cap (i think that's what it was) and proceeded to glue on pre cut weave pieces to the cap. I think it was called 21 or 27 piece weave (per my daughter). After T, glued those pieces onto the cap and she bent just a few of the pieces with a curling iron-the woman walked out looking 10 years younger! T is not Jesus, but she sho'nuff worked some miracles out yesterday...ok?

I got more than I bargained for when I sat in T's chair. She's chockful of wisdom, so i'm going to pass this on to you ladies, courtesy of T-boss (paraphrased):
"SISTAS, LET YOUR MAN BE A MAN!
Allow him to be who and what he is... A MAN.
Don't complain about what HE'S NOT DOING, when YOU won't let him do it."

If he messes up, it will not be the end of the world.

T's been married for 7years and her and hubby had a heart2heart talk, and he made it clear that he wanted to be the man of the house.

That's very hard to accept when you've been in charge of your house for so long.

But T allowed her husband to assume the role in the home, and it's working out fine.

T also shared how important it is for we as women to have support. No matter what our endeavor is, having the support of those who love you will make a world of difference in your progress.

We continued to talk as girlfriends do, and I knew I'd be coming back for another hair appointment.

Oh, you wanna know how my hair looked? lol
Well, that's my pic up above on the right-you likey?? It's hard taking a pic of yourself, it doesn't do the hairstyle any justice at all!

Let me just say I am bouncing, behaving, and swinging my shiny, yaky phony-pony all over the place, ok? I said T, "do not make me look like a 20 year old, I'm not in denial, ok?" But she did it anyway! I'm going to get you, T! I look so much younger than my 39.5years.
She even managed to cover up my gray w/out color (bonus blessing)--I told you: She's not Jesus, but she can work miracles, ok??

So to Michiganders who believe the only place to get your hair done is Detroit.
You're wrong bubble gum breath.

Get your drive on to

"Styles By Thomas"

3887 Inkster Rd

Inkster, MI 48141

(313) 724-9421, and ask for "T-boss"

**There's also a braider/weavologist, a connecting barber shop on site, and proprietor Ms. Thomas herself, who fries, dyes and lays to the side the old-school clientele, press/curl anyone??**
Tell T-Boss, Bria sent you!

See you in a coupla weeks, T!

What's Happening Around My Neck Of The Woods: So Unbelievable, It Must Be True

Mom, Dad Accused Hours Apart Of DWI
Each Parent Had Child In Car
source
(pic courtesy of Google Images)

YPSILANTI, Mich. -- A married couple were arrested within hours, each on suspicion of drunken driving.

First the husband, then his wife were arrested.

Police in a Michigan town said they stopped the man and gave him a preliminary breath test after watching him allegedly run a red light.

Police said the test registered above the legal .08 drunken driving limit.

He had his 12-year-old son in the car with him, and police told the boy to call his mother to pick him up.

After she arrived, with her 9-year-old daughter in the car, police said, the woman was tested and also found to be legally drunk.

Both children were turned over to a relative until the parents were determined to be sober.

Hmmm, sounds like a match made in hell.
Despite the shaky foundation these parents have given their children,
I'm hoping the siblings will be able to overcome their circumstances.
Being the "child" of an alcoholic, is not a walk in the park-I have first hand experience. I put quotations around the word "child" because when your parent is an addict, regardless of their drug of choice, you're no longer a child once you're aware of their dependency.
You become the parent, and they become the child.
I pray these children make it.
