'DONDA WEST LAW' TO BE PROPOSED IN CALI: Bill would require patients to get medical clearance before undergoing plastic surgery.

*A California Assemblywoman is sponsoring new legislation that would require all patients receiving elective plastic surgery to receive clearance from a licensed doctor.

On behalf of Kanye West's family, Assemblywoman Wilmer Amina Carter announced Friday (Feb. 22) that she has proposed the "Donda West Law," which would allow doctors to ensure that patients are healthy enough to endure the potential rigors of general anesthesia.

"Most people who do cosmetic surgery are certified and do a good job, and they do require patients to have physicals," Carter told the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin on Friday. "But some do not, and as we have seen, it can cause problems, and that's why we want to make this a requirement across the state."

Dr. Donda West, the mother of Kanye West, died Nov. 10 at a hospital in Los Angeles a day after undergoing breast reduction surgery, a tummy tuck and liposuction. An autopsy revealed she likely died of heart disease, coupled with complications after the surgery, "but the final manner of death could not be determined," the report concluded.

Yolanda Anderson, a niece of Donda West, reached out to Carter to suggest the legislation.

"I didn't want her death to be in vain," said Anderson, 45. "I wanted her name to live on so this wouldn't happen to other people."

Anderson said she spoke with Kanye on Friday afternoon while he's on tour in Australia and told him of Carter's involvement.

"He is ecstatic and very grateful," Anderson said. "He said, 'You started this. Now run with it and let me know how I can help."'

Anderson said there's an effort to get similar legislation pushed in Illinois, where Dr. West lived for many years, as well as Oklahoma, where she was born. Kanye West also suggested New York, where his mother did business on his behalf. source

LOS ANGELES - Kanye West's mother most likely died of heart disease coupled with complications after plastic surgery, but the exact cause of death can't be known, coroner's officials said Thursday.

Donda West, 58, died Nov. 10 at a Los Angeles-area hospital, a day after she had breast reduction, tummy tuck and liposuction procedures

A long autopsy report noted that West had coronary artery disease, including blockages of 50 percent to 70 percent in two arteries. The 5-foot-2-inch, 188-pound woman also was overweight and had developed several complications after surgery, including bronchopneumonia in one lung, according to the report.

The investigation found "therapeutic levels of medication" in West's body but no unusually high levels and no internal bleeding.

"It is my opinion Ms. West died from some pre-existing coronary artery disease and multiple postoperative factors following surgery," Dr. Louis A. Pena, a deputy medical examiner, stated in the report.

A representative for Kanye West declined to comment.

Asked whether Donda West would still be alive if she hadn't undergone the elective procedures, Ed Winter, assistant chief of the Los Angeles County coroner's office, said: "She could, possibly. But she could have also died because of pre-existing cardiac issues."

Studies have shown serious complications from plastic surgery are rare, with death occurring in 1 in 58,810 procedures.

Dr. Jan Adams, who operated on West, has denied any wrongdoing. Adams has repeatedly suggested other causes of death including heart attack, pulmonary embolism or accidental overdose of painkillers prescribed after the cosmetic surgery.

"The coroner's report confirms what we have always believed. Until further discussion with the West family we have no additional comment," Adams said in a brief statement e-mailed to The Associated Press.

Adams, a minor celebrity in his own right, has appeared as a plastic surgery expert on such shows as "Oprah," and "Entertainment Tonight." He also had his own show on the Discovery Health channel and markets a line of skin care products. He is the author of "Everything Women of Color Should Know About Plastic Surgery."

The state medical board is investigating whether Adams' license should be revoked or suspended after two alcohol-related arrests in the past four years.

According to West's autopsy report, she underwent cosmetic surgery on Nov. 9 and went home that day, "even though she was advised that she receive postoperative care at another facility."

Her first day home she was walking around and appeared fine, according to the autopsy report. She did complain of pain, including chest discomfort that coroner's investigators said could have been caused by tight bandages on her torso, put there after surgery.

The next day she developed trouble breathing and died soon afterward. The report said the pneumonia could have restricted her breathing enough that the decreased oxygen supply to her heart triggered death.

A separate report by a coroner's investigator said it couldn't be determined whether West underwent any type of pre-surgical screening before her plastic surgery. She had a stress test in January 2007 after experiencing chest and shoulder pain, but those symptons apparently never returned.

Two women who found West unresponsive on a bed in her home called 911, and on tapes released by authorities this month they told a dispatcher they believed she had suffered a heart attack. They tried unsuccessfully to revive her.

Five months before her death, West had approached plastic surgeon Dr. Andre Aboolian, who was concerned about a pre-existing condition he said could cause a heart attack during surgery. Aboolian did not operate on her.

West and her son, who has remained largely silent about her death, were close. She raised him after her husband left when he was a toddler, and she often accompanied him to parties and awards shows. She was the inspiration for the song "Hey Mama" on his 2005 album "Late Registration." Donda West, who once led Chicago State University's English department, left academia in 2004 to manage her son's career.

DONDA WEST UPDATE: Questions raised about care source

*On the eve of the coroner's toxicology report, in the death of rap superstar Kanye West's mother, Donda, questions are being raised regarding her care giver.

EUR has come across information from an inside source that doesn't present Mrs. West's nurse in a very flattering light.

The source paints a picture of a care-giver who may have over medicated the patient, didn't have the proper tools to monitor her and on the day of her death, left her side completely for several hours and was not there to provide medical expertise when West needed emergency treatment.

It'll be interesting to see if any of this is a factor when the toxicology report is released tomorrow.

I believe in keeping it real at all times--and everyone can't handle that...

Having said that, great interest has been generated concerning the welfare of Kanye West. On the same day as Dr. Donda West's funeral services, Dr. Jan Adams will be on Larry King Live. Hmmmm. I don't expect Larry King to be sensitive to the West family's grieving, I mean...they're not Tammy Faye, but this couldn't have been scheduled ONE DAY AFTERWARDS. It's a live show for goodness sakes.
Many people are clamoring to be on Larry's show-why, I haven't a clue. His questions are truly elementary-but I digress. It's too bad that yet again, common decency continues to elude Dr. Jan Adams.

I will not watch the airing...I may jump through the screen and choke both of the men, so I'll wait until afterwards and read any relative articles.
I can be objective-for those interested the show airs tomorrow, November 20th on CNN at 9pm, ET.

A spokesperson for Howard-Harris Funeral home told KOCO Channel 5 in Oklahoma City that the family had contacted them in preparation for Dr. West’s funeral.

Kanye West released the following statement:

In a post dated 11.13.07 , I couldn't understand why Discovery Health allowed this disaster of a human being to have his own show on plastic surgery, seeing as how he's been getting in trouble for years. read my post it seems TMZ is now wondering that as well.

In addition to that, it seems that Oprah's fact-checking department has once again "missed it." Remember the author who lied to Oprah?

I'm cruising through TMZ.COM and I seen many harsh, and negative Dr. Jan Adams (pic, left) posts. I couldn't understand why, until I came to the article that says he was Dr. Donda West's, as in Kanye West's mama, plastic surgeon. Uh-oh. I then back-tracked and read the other posts. Let me just say this: I hope he has a back up career, cuz he's toast.

You think that child's angry now...the saying goes "hell has no wrath (or fury), like a woman scorned"...shoot, Kanye can pitch a fit just like a woman. So what kind of wrath is really about to go down??

Dr. Donda West, Kanye's mother, was going to have her surgery performed by Dr. Aboolian (pictured at left) a well-known Beverly Hills plastic surgeon-IF, and only IF, she went to an internist referred by him and received a clearance.

Unfortunately, Dr. West did not heed Dr. Aboolian's advice, she instead went to a doctor who saw dollar signs and performed the surgery anyway.

As we all know the consequence was deadly.

Family, if you're considering surgery...DO RESEARCH! This is not NIP/TUCK-ok?

See a reputable plastic surgeon, and ask questions. Ask a million questions if you have to. Do not allow the doctor to talk down to you, or make your fears seem unfounded.

This woman had a procedure performed with hopes of looking and feeling better about self. She didn't come across as narcissistic, vain. She merely wanted to "fix" a trouble spot. She never got to see the results.

On the other hand, we have the "brides-of-frankenstein" and "science projects" whose jobs (it seems to me)

are solely to get cut, sucked, lifted, shifted, pulled, stretched, tucked, remove, add, create,

recreate, recreate once more now only identifiable by their voice, because they no longer look like their former self. These guinea pigs are the opposite of Dr. West. They're selfish, compulsive, insecure, and most likely suffering from body Dysmorphia. And yet on the regular, they CHOOSE to play Russian Roulette with their lives.

There are no guarantees, and no i'm not saying we should just lay down and accept aging.

We just have to count the costs.

Because as with Dr. Donda West, the cost can be deadly.

Kanye West's mother, Dr. Donda West, has died, according to Hot 97's Miss Info. Kanye was in London when he was given the tragic news. He is currently on his way back to the United States.

"The family respectfully asks for privacy during this time of grief," the spokesman said.
A cause of death has not been released.

Donda West was known for the strong bond she shared with her son, by whose side she was often seen at parties and award shows.
In May, she published the book "Raising Kanye: Life Lessons from the Mother of a Hip-Hop Star," in which she paid homage to her famous son.

Donda West served as chief executive of West Brands LLC, the parent company of her son's business enterprises, and as chairwoman of the Kanye West Foundation, an educational nonprofit that works to decrease dropout rates and improve literacy.

She worked in higher education for 31 years, before leaving academia in 2004 to help manage her son's career, according to a biography on the Kanye West Foundation's Web site.
She began working at Chicago State University in 1980 and eventually chaired the school's English department, according to the site. She started her teaching career in the early 1970s as an instructor at Brown College in Atlanta.
